Screen looks blurry?

Hi, I downloaded Windows 8.1 today and I seem to be having an issue with my screen. I will try to describe it the best I can.

Before Windows 8.1 everything was fine, but now, it seems some programs are slightly blurry and some are fine. Here are some random examples: Internet Explorer and FireFox look clear, but Chrome and Opera look blurry. Office 365, AVG Security Center, and Control Panel look clear, but Spotify and notifications from my taskbar look blurry. Also, the taskbar looks thinner than it usually does. My screen resolution is how the manufacture of my laptop says it should be and I haven't changed any settings (I think). I guess you could even say my screen looks like it was stretched horizontally.

What could be the problem? I am sick of seeing these blurry screens! Any help would be awesome.

Thanks a lot,

Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

To help you with the issue, please answer the following questions:

    1. What is the make and model of your computer?
    2. Are you using a modern video card from AMD, such as the AMD Radeon HD 5000 or 6000 Series?

If you are using AMD graphic card let's disable the Morphological filtering and check if it fixes the issue.

    a.       Right click on the desktop and select "AMD VISION Engine Control Center".

    b. In the "AMD VISION Engine Control Center" window, go to Gaming -> 3D Application Settings". In the Anti-Aliasing section, uncheck "Morphological filtering" and click Apply.

If you are not using AMD graphic card, you may reinstall the video adapter drivers. Refer to the method below.

    •       Press Windows key + R, type devmgmt.msc in the run prompt.

    •       Expand the Display adapters section, right-click the display adapter, click uninstall.

    •       Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.

If you still face the issue, I would suggest you to refer to the following article and perform the steps mentioned under “Update driver” section.

I'm also having a similar problem after updating to Windows 8.1. Like the other user said, the text on firefox and computer folders looks clear but when opening programs (e.g. iTunes, Skype, and even the Device manager) the window and especially the text looks fuzzy.

My laptop is an HP ENVY dv6 with a Nvidia GEFORCE 630M 2GB, but I'm also having a problem with the graphics card that I want to ask about. After the Windows 8.1 update, I noticed that my laptop stopped using the Nvidia graphics card and started using the Intel HD graphics card instead. I checked the "Device Manager", under "Display Adapter" and Nvidia wasn't there so I tried reinstalling it and then I updated it to the latest version which supports Windows 8.1. I checked the device manager and then Nvidia appeared under the "Display adapters" and both Intel and Nvidia were enabled so I disabled Intel and left Nvidia enabled. Then I tried opening the Nvidia Control Panel and got an error message saying "You are not currently attached to an Nvidia GPU". When I check the settings for the display, it says the driver is "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" now instead of Intel. Why isn't Nvidia connected? I don't get it.

I have a NVIDIA and an Intel driver. Which do I delete? Do I delete the software, too? Thanks.

I had a similar problem with an AMD display driver.  It looked fine until I upgraded to 8.1.  My solution was to reinstall the display driver.

What was strange was that Device Manager said I had the current display driver already installed, but then during installation the AMD install manager said there was no AMD driver.  Reinstalling fixed it.

When I expand the Display adapters section, which one do I uninstall? I  see "Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000" and NVIDA GeForce GT 640M".  Also, when I remove the driver, do I keep the software that is already installed, too, or keep the software? Thanks.
