I am unable to install Win 8.1 on a GPT partition (Win 8.1 64 bit, from OEM DVD).

I start with a blank disk, use diskpart to (1) CLEAN the disk and (2) Convert GPT.

I then use the OEM DVD of Win 8.1 to do the install.

I get two partitions (350MB and 220GB). The 220 GB partition has Win 8.1, but the partition is MBR format.

The format of the disk is now MBR as well.

How do I get a GPT installation instead pf the MBR installation?

I have run this installation process on an SSD (my desired end result), and also on a SATA hard disk. Same result in each case.

Help please.

    Hi Pip,

I would suggest you to refer to the following article which has steps to convert one type of partition to other.

I would also suggest you to refer to the section Can a disk be both GPT and MBR?, What is a Protective MBR? and **Why does the GPT have a Protective MBR?**of the article **** to get the answer why GPT partition disk appears on MBR disk.
