Thanks for coming back and providing us more details in the private message area. It is possible that the emoticon was enable on your Live Mail when composing an email.
I can help you with this issue. Here's a thing. Hold ALT+F on your keyboard then choose
Option and click Email. Click the Compose tab then
uncheck Convert special key strokes to emoticons and click
Ok.
Also, please be informed that the program you are using when accessing an email is still Windows Live Mail. It's just the term Hotmail (in the web) was change to Outlook.com. Nevertheless, everything we're all set on your emails on that program (WLM)
