My Desktop PC has a XFX X58I Motherboard with Intel Core i7 920 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics.
It runs fine with Windows XP and Windows 7 32bit and 64bit with No Sound problem. But after Installing Windows 8 No Sound in Windows 8. After I restart and load Windows 7 everything is fine in Windows 7, But No sound in Windows 8 with Realtek HD Audio. Sound Graph in Volume bar showing sound and even in Playback device it showing in graph that sound is playing. and I have already selected my audio out device as Realtek HD audio in playback device. No Sound at all with my Realtek HD audio in Windows 8. As My AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics card has HDMI port i tried it to test as my default sound playback device. With HDMI port of AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics card Sound is fine in windows 8. So no sound with Realtek HD audio in Windows 8 only. By the way After I installed Windows 8 it already installed sound driver for my Realtek HD audio. with this no sound and i also downloaded Realtek HD audio driver R271 from realtek website with it installed also no sound at all with my Realtek HD audio.
Today I installed Windows 8.1 and same sound problem with Realtek HD Audio. Please help me.

I had the same problem with a 2 week old computer after upgrading to 8.1 Go to Control Panel - sounds - speakers - Configure - Test, If no sound click the small speakers to the right, If I remember correct it ran a compatibility test and afterwards the sound worked.
My 8.1 speaker icon had a red x , I restarted computer and it worked fine...A week ;ater same thing happened ,and it said no programs for sound were installed..?????

I would suggest you to install Realtek HD Audio driver using Windows 7 compatibility mode, this might help you in fixing the issue.

If the still persists, you can check by updating chip drivers by downloading from the computer manufacturer’s website. You can also try by flashing the BIOS, to know more about flashing the BIOS, I would suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer.
Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Your advice is nonsense, where You already have told that We ( relatek users) have installed latest Windows 8.1 driver and - NO - nothing of Your "advices" do not solve the problem.
It is clear that Microsoft release another not properly tested version of Windows - similar to the Vista's where users will pay the price and will be used like gini pigs to discover Bugs that simply should not be there.
I have not had no sound now in a month, but the better Business Bureau says that her and the Governor of our state, will be with me along with my lawyer that will then find out from the man would know the truth and that will be placing a lawsuit against Microsoft.com, and the NSA, whom has been sticking their noses into my business for quiet a long while.
