This can sometimes be fixed by pressing left alt and left shift at the same time to change keyboard language.

    Hello SaraWoolfrey,

To better assist you with your concern, please provide the following information:

    • When did this issue occur initially?
    • Are you able to type the @ symbol to any other word processing program?
    • Are you only unable to type the @ symbol to Windows Live Mail client?
    • Have you checked if your keyboard is properly working?
    • What other steps you did to resolve the issue?

You may also need to check your keyboard as it is possible that this is one cause of this issue.

    Thank you.

Keyboard is working properly as far as I can tell, I am using it to type now.

It's presumably working properly for the keyboard layout selected ...

I changed the language from 'English NZ' to 'English UK' and it didn't resolve the issue (back on NZ setting).

Press Windows key + I to open settings, then select Time & language > Region & language. Click on the language currently selected (English NZ) and select Options. This will show the current keyboard layout associated with the selected language; you will probably have to Add a different one that matches the layout you expect. Once you've found it, you can click on the one that doesn't match and Remove it.

I had this problem. It fixed itself after a few minutes/after I copied and pasted an "@" sign. That's another solution for any keys that aren't working, you can just copy and paste from the internet.
