    Hi Donald,

Thank you for posting. As I understand, you copied your pictures from a portable storage and they were not separated by folders. You can sort this pictures by following these:

    1. On Photo Gallery, left pane, right click Pictures.
    2. Select Create new folder and name it the way you want it.
    3. Highlight the photos you want to add on that folder.
    4. Drag and drop those photos on that folder on the left pane.

You can do these steps until you fully organized all of your photos. In case this is not your concern, feel free to post back so we can extend our assistance.

    Regards,

    Richard

Thank you for your reply Richard.I originally copied these pictures from a desktop XP .They were in folders and stayed in the same folders on the portable harddrive. I have copied them to a laptop windows 7 and they stayed in the same folders, it wasn't until I moved them to a desktop 8.1that they lost their folders and became individual files. I can group the files by going to view and date and then collapse them but they only stay that way until you close that app. To gather 9170 files into folders is very time consuming .  I thought there might be and easier way to get back to my original folders.

Glenda A;  I am using photo gallery but photo app has the same problem ,no folders. File explorer has the photos in a folder but all files are in one folder . when you open the folder no separate folders for each group of photos

    Hi Donald,

Thanks for posting back. To further isolate your issue, kindly answer the following questions below:

    • Since you mentioned app, can you please verify if you are using the Windows Photo Galleryprogram, or are you maybe referring to Windows 8 Photo App?
    • Also, are the files saved on folders when viewed using File Explorer?

    We'll wait for your response.

    Regards.
