How Do I Recover Deleted Photos Windows 7

My husband has recently been trying to backup our computer & somehow completely deleted every picture that I ever uploaded to our Windows 7 HP computer. He downloaded some type of photo recovery software, but it restored pictures that I have never seen before & didn't restore all the pictures. I've lost 3 years of memories in pictures - including my kids & wedding. If anyone knows how to restore these pictures or if there is a way it would be greatly appreciated!

    Recuva is a good utility..

    http://www.piriform.com/recuva

.. but like ALL recovery utilities, they tend to scour an entire drive and will find ALL photo type formats, not just your lost photos.

Unfortunately, file recovery is not an exact science, nothing like you see on CSI TV programs. You should not be using the computer until you have got as much off as you think that you can..

Here's my standard answer, but depending on what (and when) he's done
trying to get them back, it may or may not still be helpful:

"Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete it; it just marks the space
as available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to become overwritten very quickly, and this makes
    the file unrecoverable.

So your chances of successfully recovering this file are decent if you
try recovering it immediately after deleting it, and rapidly go
downhill from there. If you've been using the computer since then (for
example to write this question and read this answer), your chances may
    be very poor by now.

But if the file is important enough, it's worth a try anyway. Stop
using the computer in question immediately, if you haven't done so
already. Download an undelete program (here's a good one:
http://www.piriform.com/recuva but there are several others to choose
from; do a search) on a friend's computer (don't do it on yours since
that may overwrite the file(s) you want to undelete)and bring it to
yours on a  CD or thumb drive to try.
