Device Driver for Linksys AE6000 installs okay on Windows 8, but not Windows 8.1

Anonymous

When I attempt to install a Linksys AE6000 network adapter, I receive the following message:

Linksys AE6000

The system cannot find the file specified.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software.

I've looked through the SetupAPI logs and found that it errors on netvwifibus.inf on line 43 - I believe it's referring to vwifibus.sys, but I'm not 100% certain.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair a driver package or re-target it for Windows 8.1? I imagine it's probably a simple fix for Windows 8.1 compatibility. Who knows how long it may take for Linksys to update their driver package for Windows 8.1 support...

Thanks for your help!

Ben

Unfortunately, the Linksys AE6000 Windows 8 Driver package comes with a standard Inf/Sys file driver - there is no executable in the plain driver package - This means there's nothing to run in compatibility mode.

There is another option on the Linksys website, Cisco Connect Setup Software for PC, that is an executable. I've tried to run this in Windows 8 compatibility mode, but the program simply tries to install the same driver package mentioned above, and fails with the same results.

I have also just noticed another issue with my PC - in playing with my network settings, I've noticed that my main "wired" network connection is also suffering from a strange problem. When I try to open its properties, I receive a dialog stating that there was an unexpected error. Similarly, disabling the connection also presents an odd dialog box that reads:

Error disabling connection: it is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug-and-play, or it may have been initiated by another user or the system account.

Looking online for that issue brings up some old articles mentioning the problem on Windows XP. I plan to attempt to resolve this issue "in the hopes" that its related to the installation problem of my AE6000 network adapter.

I'll post my findings once I try and resolve the issue later tonight (when I'm at home)!

    Thanks for your response Rajesh!

    Hi Nintendo,

As you have mentioned, this could be due to the incompatibility of the “Linksys AE6000” device driver with Windows 8.1. However, we can still make this device to work on Windows 8.1. This is by installing its latest (Windows 8 Compatible) drivers in the Windows 8 compatibility mode. You may download and save the Windows 8 drivers from this link:

    Linksys AE6000 Windows 8 Drivers

Note: Click on the “Download” tab on that webpage and then download the latest Windows 8 drivers for the device.

After downloading the correct driver from that link, to install it in Windows 8 compatibility mode, you may refer to this article:

***Get your apps and devices working in Windows 8***

For more information about Program Compatibility, you may also refer to these links:

Hope this is helpful. Please get back to us with the results.
