Windows 8 Upgrade assistant for XP?

I am trying to see if I can upgrade my current PC to Windows 8.  I use Windows XP, and what I DON'T want to do is buy Windows 8 and then find it doesn't work on my system.  So I'd like to run the Windows 8 Upgrade assistant, just to see if my PC will be compatible.  I have downloaded the file recommended here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq but when I try to run it I get "This platform is not supported."

Where is the Windows 8 upgrade assistant for Windows XP?  I have 32-bit Windows XP Professional, and I have SP3 installed.

Thanks,

You can upgrade from win XP to win 8

Windows 8 Upgrade Path for Windows XP:

Now let's talk about Windows XP. Good news for XP users. Windows XP users will also be able to upgrade to Windows 8 but they'll only be able to keep their document files after upgrading to Windows 8 similar to Windows Vista without SP1 users.

Also you'll need to have SP3 installed in Windows XP to be able to upgrade to Windows 8.

    From here http://www.askvg.com/windows-8-upgrade-paths-for-windows-xp-vista-and-7/

BUT you may not be able to keep your Your apps, settings etc.

We have no idea what hardware you have but the path should work.

Win 8 system requirements are here

The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant is supposed to work with XP.

The Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant does not.

    See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8

I doubt that a system that has been running XP will be able to support all of the features of Win 8 ... but it's possible that you may get it run.  See Windows 8 System Requirements

The Windows 8 Upgrade Asssitant used to work with XP Pro SP3; now it doesn't and returns the error you reported.

    Cheers.
