Getting Error message " No pen or touch input is available for this display" when checking for touch feature

Original title: Touch screen feature now gone

We were advised of yet another update and now there is no touch feature on our PC. Going to Control Panel and finding our way to PC INFO we discover a message saying:  "No pen or touch input is available for this display" and yet we had been using it for weeks. What gives?

Your thought will be helpful.

I have a similar problem with my Thinkpad X201T following changing from Win7 (32) to Win 8.1 (64). The touch screen no longer functions and the same error message applies.  Hardware and Sound does not show any Pen and touch.  Somehow my Thinkpad no longer realises it has a touch screen.  Have I accidentally turned it off somewhere?  Thanks  Bruce

Okay, here we go ... and thank you for the help!

First:   Make is DELL, model XPS2720

Second:  KB 2553065  (total of 70 updates)

Third:  Graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 4600

Says it is up to date

Went to Dell looking for updates and found the last one was: "Hard Drive Video Intel W84 A01 Setup 5PXN5 ZPE.exe".

Downloaded it but was then informed there are more current updates already on the computer so did I want to void them and I said no. Should I have said yes to see what might happen?

Fourth:  Of course, I am still with the loss of the touchscreen feature.

    Suggestions please.

    Thank you.

    Hi Bruce,

I would suggest you to install latest touch screen driver from the computer manufacturer website and check if it helps.

    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-70656

If Windows 8.1 drivers are not available in the computer manufacturer website, I would suggest you to install Windows 8 drivers in compatibility mode.

To install the Wireless touch screen driver in compatibility mode, I would suggest you to follow these steps.

    a. Download the latest touch screen driver for Windows 8 from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

    b. Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.

    c. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

    d. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode”and select Windows 8from the drop down list.

    e. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with updated status of the issue to assist you further.
