I gave an old laptop to a Spanish speaking friend and installed a Spanish version of Windows XP Professional. I learned today that I now have to get tons of missing drivers. I looked into driver questions answered on this site where I learned a bit
about the problem but am a bit confused. Do I need to open the laptop to look on the mother board for the manufacturer of the items? I went to the Sony website and identified the model (VGN-S480B) but couldn't figure out what to do next. Driver support for
that model lists has many item but none match any of the items missing, which are
- Mass Storage Controller
- Universal serial bus (USB) controller
- SM bus controller
- Network controller
- video controller
- video controller (compatible VGA)
- ethernet controller
- PCI device
- UGX
Under the listing for the 'Motherboard' driver they show an Intel® Chipset 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Chipset Controller Driver that
I can download.
Under 'Sony Applications' driver they show a Sony® VAIO® Edit Components Update that I can download.
Under 'Notebook Control and Utilities' they offer a download that is described as
- Sony Utilities DLL
- Sony Setting Utility Series
- VAIO Event Services
- Wireless Switch Setting Utility
- Battery Check Utility
- VAIO Power Management
