1440x900 resolution is no longer available

original title: Monitor settings

My OS is Windows 7 32bit and I use a ViewSonic 21 inch monitor.

Approximately 30% of the time when I switch on my computer, the monitor settings have changed and the desktop has narrowed. When I try to select my monitor settings they are not displayed and I have to select the DETECT option which then restores my desktop to suit my monitor, at the same time my icons re-arrange themselves.

How can I stop my monitor settings from changing at shutdown?

If u have problems in setting 1440x900 after few days then try this. It worked for me. May be it can work for u.

    1. Unplug the monitor cable(VGA/DVI) from CPU
    2. Unplug the power cable from your monitor
    3. Replug the monitor cable(VGA/DVI) to CPU
    4. Replug the power cable to your monitor

NOTE: DO THESE STEPS WHILE THE COMPUTER IS TOTALLY SWITCHED ON!!! (AFTER LOGGING INTO WINDOWS)

    Ramesh.

Via Control Panel Devices and Printers its a ViewSonic VA1916w and the label on the back of the monitor states its Model Number is: VS11756.

Yes via the Properties under Devices and Printers the screen resolution is: 1440 x 900 (recommended).

Via the forum blogs, I downloaded Power Suite and after four shutdown and starts since then the icons are still where I put them so the problem might be fixed.

    Regards, Eric

    Hi Eric P H,

    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Do you remember making any changes on your computer?

I suggest you to update the drivers for your display adapter and check if any updates available for your monitor from the manufacturer’s website.

Below are the steps to update the drivers:

    1. Open Device Manager by clicking on Start, then type Device Manager in the search box.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. Look for the Display adapter drivers, right click on it and select ‘Update Driver’.
    4. Once the drivers are installed, boot the computer and check for the issue.

Access the below link for more information on updating drivers:

    Update drivers:

    Hope this helps.

Regards, Manasa P – Microsoft Support.

I was unable to get the 1440X900 without downloading and installing the

drivers for the display from Viewsonic as well as the latest drivers for the

    video card.

you might try the drivers from viewsonic as well.

    Greetings Manasa P.

    Thank you for your reply.

It started after my last monitor was replaced earlier this year.

Occasinally when I start my PC, the desktop has a two inch (approximately) border on each side with small icons and font, when I go to correct the screen resolution my monitor resolution (1440x900) is not listed. To fix the issue I have to select the 'detect' option, then the desktop border disappears and the icons and font sizes are corrected. The desktop icons are also re-arranged.

Followed your suggestion to update the driver but the latest version is installed.

    Regards, Eric
