Acer iconia w3 tablet-unable to access keyboard or write on screen since windows 8.1 update

I updated windows 8.1 on Tuesday morning and immediately could no longer use the touch pad. I use the tablet everyday for work, wirting my notes. I had no trouble prior to the update. Now I can no longer write, insert the text if I am able to write something, and can not access the keyboard. I am able to access the number pad, but the keyboard will not come up. I also attempted recovery options; however, I could not do so as it was missing parts of the initial installation. I tehn attempted to connect the tablet to my laptop via the mini usb port, but was unsuccessful on 2 computers. I have the recovery disk and original product code. I attempted to input the product code, but it has letters and I can no longer type letters with my tablet.

Please help.

I have done  all that you asked. I went in to the trouble shooter and attempted to find and fix. No luck. I even downloaded the driver. I still can not access the keyboard or write on the tablet. At this point, it is worthless as tablet.  If you have another suggestion, I will definitely do it.

    Thanks

    Hi Stephanie,

I see that this is your first post in this forum, welcome to the Microsoft community forum.

This issue could be caused due to some incorrect settings or due to a corrupt driver. I would suggest you to try these steps and check:

Method 1: Hardware and devices troubleshooter

The hardware and devices troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix most of the incorrect settings and errors that could cause issues with hardware. Refer to these steps to run this troubleshooter:

    a)      Press Windows key +F to bring up the search Charms bar.

    b)      Type Troubleshooter and press enter; click on the Settings tab below the search box.

    c)       Click on the Find and Fix problems tile and then click on the view all button the left pane.

    d)      Click on the Hardware and devices troubleshooter and run it.

    Method 2:

If the troubleshooter didn’t detect any issues, then the issue could be caused due to a corrupt or incompatible touch driver. In this case, I would suggest you to download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and check. Here is a link to download the driver:

Try these steps and let us know the results. We’d be happy to help if you need any further assistance.
