Original title: WiFi limited

When ever i connect to a WiFi network it always shows 'connection is limited' and it keeps disconnecting in every few minutes. I have tried a lot of things to solve this problem like changing the driver, changing settings in the network properties but nothings is working. This all started after i updated to Windows 8.1.

    Hi Shailandra,

What is the make and model of the computer?

This error means the PC has successfully connected to the router, but the PC wasn't assigned a valid IP address, so you can't actually get to the Internet. It can also indicate that a valid IP address was assigned but that the PC doesn't have Internet connectivity.

For further information, refer to the section “My connection is listed as Limited” from the article.

Why can't I connect to the Internet?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/cant-connect-to-internet

Let’s try the following suggestions and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Network troubleshooter and check.

Run the Network troubleshooter. Refer to the “Use an automated troubleshooter” section.

    Why can't I connect to a network?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/cant-connect-to-network#1TC=windows-8

Method 2: Reset the router and check.

    a) Disconnect the cable that connects the computer to the router.

    b) Turn off the router.

Note: If the router does not have a power switch, disconnect the power cord to the router.

    c) Reconnect the computer to the router.

    d) Make sure that all network cables are securely connected.

    e) Turn on (or reconnect the power cord to) the router.

    f) Wait 20 seconds, and then restart your computer.

Method 3: Try resetting TCP/IP and check if it works.

    a. Press “Windows Key + Q” button from the keyboard.

    b. Type “Command Prompt” without quotes in the search box.

    c. On the left pane, right click on the “Command Prompt” option and select “Run as Administrator”.

    d. At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note: If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    e. Reboot the computer.

    Hi Vijay,

What is going on here? Up till 8.1 it was working without any problems.

I guess I have the same issue as Shailandra.

The problem is quite easy. There is an internet connection. My laptop is also connected to the internet via Wi-Fi at the moment, as well as a second laptop and a phone. Only my laptop is showing the Limited sign. Sometimes a few times in a few minutes and sometimes it goes good for half an hour.

It seems that when I switch to different pages problems occur. I can easily watch a movie (streaming) online and no problems occur.

I have not tried the antivirus comment you gave as my antivirus program has not changed over the last year(s). As I read from dozens of forums there are many (read: many) people facing this issue, it can not be that Microsoft has not a proper solution to solve this.

    PLEASE help us!

All above solutions did not work. Could a proper solution not be tested before. As letting all these people (including me) become the Microsoft test bunnies.

This way you prevent your customers running away from Microsoft products.

    Regards,

    Thijs

    Hey Ganesh

yes i followed the commands in the administrator command prompt. I tried Using the network trouble shooter but that fixes the problem for few minutes. Its still showing 'connection is limited' and the wifi keeps dropping in every few minutes. Its very frustrating and i waste a lot of time in running the troubleshooter every few minutes.
