Mouse cursor occasionally jumps while doing something

As of late, I've been encountering an issue where I'll be perhaps playing a game and, all of a sudden, my mouse cursor jumps to the center left edge of the screen, and the window becomes inactive, even when running a virtual machine with mouse capture disabled (this means that while the machine's virtual cursor is active, the host cursor is not, and I have to press a key to be able to use the host cursor. This started happening this past Monday and has persisted throughout the week. I had changed some pointer settings prior to encountering this issue (namely, the cursor theme and displaying cursor trails). I am using a Toshiba Satellite (L75D) running Windows 8. I have been using an external mouse, while keeping the touchpad inactive.

    1. I mean it jumps to the center of the left edge of the screen. I am using a laptop; one screen.
    2. The mouse is a Razer BoomerSpeed (Razer Boomslang 2100 dpi)
    3. I prefer not to run games in full screen, and, thus, I do not know if it does. It does in windowed mode.
    4. I have observed it happening in ROBLOX Studio, Minecraft, and while running various games on a virtual machine.
    5. It started to occur this Monday.
    6. I changed the pointer theme to use a custom pointer, and checked the Display pointer trails box under Pointer Options in the Mouse dialog

I always prefer to keep the touchpad disabled when I am using a mouse because it can interfere with gaming.

The Hide pointer while typing box is already unchecked

As far as I can tell, the issue isn't frequent enough anymore to determine the results. It appears to have stopped this evening, and I cannot tell if that might have been caused by resetting the options in 6. I'll let you know if it recurs.

Have you tried changing the options in 6. back to the default settings to see if it works again?

    Have you tried System Restore?

    Hi,

    1.       What are you referring to by “it jumps to another screen”? Are you using dual monitor?

    2.        What is the make and model of the mouse device?

    3.       Does it happen when the game/application is in full screen mode?

    4.       Does this happen only with a particular game? If yes, what is the name of that game?

    5.       From when, are you facing this issue?

    6.       Have you made any recent changes on the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to go to the manufacturer’s website to download the updated drivers for touchpad and install them.

Follow these steps to change the cursor settings.

    a.      Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

    b.      Click on Mouse and click on Pointer Options.

    c.       Uncheck the box for Hide pointer while typing.
