How do I install NS2

I want to install ns2 on my laptop.I am using windows 8.1 so please help me

1. Are you installing NS2 simulator for the first time?
2. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
3. Do you get any error while installing?

I would suggest you to try the following steps to install NS2 simulator.

a. Click "Start. In the search bar " Type "C:\cygwin" in the box that appears, and then press "Enter."

b. Click and drag the NS2 tar.gz file into the window that appears.

c. Start Cygwin by clicking "Start" on your desktop. Type "Cygwin" in the search box that appears and press "Enter."

d. Type "gzip --d ns-allinone-2.27.tar.gz" and press "Enter."

e. Type "tar --xvf ns-allinone-2.27.tar" in the screen, and then press enter. This finishes extracting NS2 from the compressed tar file.

f. Access the new NS2 folder by typing "cd ns-allinone-2.27."

g. Type "./install" to install NS2.

i see an error "--xvf unrecognized option"
