I have a HP Envy 17 that gets overheated and boom .....off it goes.  It's always gotten extremely hot.  Any suggestions besides opening it up and cleaning it up?  Is there a way to turn the temp down, so it doesn't get so hot it burns up the insides?  Thanks

amy

    Hi Amy

    1. When does your computer overheat? Does it heat up while the normal use or while running any specific application?
    2. Have you made any significant system changes recently that might have caused this issue?
    3. When do you get this error “SysClass.dll, Critical Device Controller”? Are you trying to install any USB device?

Please refer the following HP article about Overheating issues.

If the article above does not address your issue or it does not help I would suggest you to contact HP to get hardware diagnosis done.
