Adv. System Pro Care/Systweak/Cleverbridge IS THIS A SCAM ???

Purchased was I thought was an inexpensive PC cleaner last year. Then I get a message saying it has run out and wanting me to download new cleaner.

I did the download and received 2 other cleaners from the same company: Cleverbridge was the name on my credit card.

When I tried to use it I found out I needed a licence key to run it. They were supposed to send the key in an email.

I never received the email. When I called them the next day I spoke with someone in India :)  He was nice and said he could fix the problem is I allowed him to sign on my computer. Dummy that I am, I ok'd that and watched him work on the problem. After 45mins. he said all was fixed. Then told me I had a few problems and for about $200 they could fix it. I said NO, did not want to spend anymore money.  He was nice and seemed honest.

That nice I tried to use the cleaner and again was told I needed the key to activate the software.

Called India again and let them have both barrels :)   Was told they had a problem and I would have to send an email to request the key.

Told them NO, either they send the care or I was calling my credit card and cancelling the deal. The supervisor said I would have the key in an email in a few hours.

I still have not received the key and so cancelled the purchase with my bank.

Question: has anyone heard of this company: Advance System Pro Care, SYSTWEAK or Cleverbridge.  ???

Was your experience good or bad ??   Is this a scam ???

The day after I got off the phone with them I had some kind of a hacker take over my computer with a virus of some kind.

Had to pay a geek $75.00 for working several hours to get my computer back :(

These 'performance enhancers' or 'cleanup your whole computer' or 'security suite' packages are unnecessary at the very least and many (if not most) are scams when it comes to being able to clean-up/fix/improve performance.

Usually those taken in by it end up not only paying them manually - but thanks to the information they have collected and/or are still collecting from your computer - they will continue to pay in various ways.

Hi,

As you have given them Remote Access and you do Internet Banking, contact your Bank, explain it to them and change Passwords.

And as you use your Credit Card online, cancel it and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that you willl know that you are free of them is to save your Data and do a clean install of your Operating System.
