Lenovo G500, wifi says "limited" access

Alright, so yesterday I bought a brand new Lenovo G500 laptop on boxing day. It is installed with windows 8. My laptop will connect to the network, but it shows "limited" access to my wifi. I have an old laptop (which I'm posting this with right now), as well as an iPhone which all work perfectly fine with the wifi, so it has nothing to do with that. I've tried contacting Lenovo with this problem and apparently I'd have to pay to get any help from them because they believe it's a software problem and not a hardware problem.

I have googled many different ways on how to fix this, and have probably tried just about everything.

Restart router - won't work

Troubleshooting - won't work

Reset wireless adapter - didn't work

Update drivers - didn't work (The network adapter driver I'm currently using is a Broadcom 802.11n)

I've also tried multiple CMD prompts and none have worked, like resetting the TCP/IP and the winsock.

I've tried using my laptop at my boyfriend's with his wifi and the connectivity works completely fine, so I have a feeling it has something to do with my router/modem?

Router - D-Link DIR-605L

Modem - model DCM476

If you need any more info please let me know.

Update: I've checked with the windows compatibility and my Router is compatible with windows 8

I have the exact same problem as KathleenGlenn above and have also tried many of the ways mentioned in their post to address the issue. I have a Lenovo G500 and a D-Link DIR-605L router. I have Windows 8 on my machine. I tried enabling the FIPS compliance as suggested above with no luck. My laptop is only a month old and I am not sure what the problem is.

My WiFi connection works perfectly with other Dell and Macintosh laptops. I am getting frustrated. Can anyone help?

    Hi Kathleen,

Limited connectivity means the PC has successfully connected to the router, but the PC wasn't assigned a valid IP address, so you can't actually get to the Internet. It can also indicate that a valid IP address was assigned but that the PC doesn't have Internet connectivity.

Please try the below given step it worked for many users facing similar issue in this thread.

Right click on your WIFI connection and click on View Connection Properties.

    1. Click on Security tab.
    2. Click on Advanced settings which opens 802.11 settings.
    3. Check Enable Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for this network.
    4. Click on OK button.
    5. Reconnect your computer through WIFI and enjoy internet.

Please update if it works for you. If you need further assistance, we will be glad to help you.

    Happy Holidays!

This worked for me. Thanks. However, after making the change, I had to disconnect from the wifi network then connect again.

    So far so good. Thanks.

It still says it has limited access :( I'm getting extremely frustrated now because I have tried everything!
