Logitech USB headset microphone not detected.

I have a problem with Windows not properly detecting a headset, and thus far have not found a solution to it.

In essence, I plug it in to the USB port, and I can hear music through the headphones, but the mic is not detected as a recording device.

-The mic is not muted

-Recording devices only shows he computer's built-in mic and stereo mix

-Show disabled/disconnected devices are both selected

-I've reinstalled all audio drivers

-Running the "Set up a Microphone" option only detects the laptop's built-in microphone

-If the built-in microphone is disabled, "Set up a Mirophone" gives a "No audio input device found" error

Seeing as the headset is simply a plug-and-play device, the problem seems to be with windows somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look next. I'm running a Lenovo G780 laptop with Windows 8.1, and the headset is a Logitech H760 wireless USB headset.

    HI,

The headset might not be set as the default device when you connect it. Make your headset as the default audio output device when you connect it under the playback devices.

    Method 1:

    a. Right click on the Sound icon in the system tray and click on Playback Devices.

    b. If headset is not listed, then right click on the empty space and make sure there is a check mark on Show Disabled Devices.

    c. Once it is checked, you should see the headset listed.

    d. Ensure that correct device is selected and set as default for playback (Highlight the device and hit “set as default” Right on the device and hit Enable).

Try installing the drivers using compatibility mode

As I stated above, in the third bullet point, it is not listed in Playback Devices, even with Show Disabled Devices selected. As such, I can not select it, nor set it as default, as there is nothing at all to select.

It appears in Playback Devices as Speakers, but not in Recording Devices. This makes me think that Windows is detecting the headset wrong.

Troubleshooting detects a problem with bluetooth drivers, goes to update, but then resolves with the problem unfixed.

Windows update reports everything is up to date.

Device manager only reports a problem with (once again,) the bluetooth driver. (Error code 10)

According to Logitech, everything is up to date with the headset.

Apparently, there's a problem with the driver, which must be what's effecting the headset, but I find it curious that it fails to update it. Additionally, when attempting to update the driver via the Device Manager, it responds that the driver is up to date.

I honestly thought the "Safely Remove Hardware" option was there in Windows 8.1 ...hmmmmm????  Must be a "senior" moment.

This troubleshooter is an automated Windows 8 inbuilt tool which finds and fixes the common issues with the recording audio devices and its settings. Perform these steps to run this tool and check if that helps.

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b) Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

    c) In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

    d) Click on “Audio Recording”.

    e) Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.

    f) Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

1: Check the Windows updates for any latest driver updates.

Check in Windows updates if any driver updates are available. If so, install the same and check if it helps.

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b) Type “Updates” in the search bar and click on “Install optional updates” from the left pane.

    c) From the “Windows Update” window, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates and install all the updates listed there.

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    b) Click on “Device Manager”.

    c) Search for the Sound Card from the device list and right click on it and select “Update Driver Software”.

    d) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation of the latest driver.

    e) If no driver updates are available, you may also search for the updated sound card drivers in the “Drivers” and “DriverStore” folders in the location “C:/Windows/System32” by selecting the option “Browse my computer for Driver Software”.

Or, go to the Manufacturer's website and look for an updated driver.  Follow the installation instructions.

Have you tried the headset in another usb port?

Have you tested the headset on another Windows 8.1 computer?

    Is firmware up to date?

    Plug the device in

If you see the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the notification area at the far right of the taskbar, you can use this to ensure that devices have finished all operations in progress and are ready to remove. Click the icon and you'll see a list of devices. Click the device you want to remove.

    Reboot the computer

Plug the device in again.  Is it now detected?

In Device Manager click the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Is the Root Hub  displaying an exclamation point (!) in a yellow circle?

Verify that the BIOS is assigning an interrupt request (IRQ) to the root USB controller. This is required for the device driver to be loaded. (note:  usually IRQ 9 is assigned)

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

    Open Device Manager

    Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
