What is Reg.exe?

When I was in search, I wanted to check my registry, so i typed "reg". I then immediately clicked on"reg", but then nothing happened. So I did the exact same thing again, and nothing happened. On my third attempt, I realized that "reg" was not "regedit". I was a little worried, so then I began to restart my computer. I made sure to exit all my windows and apps. I even checked task manager saying: "there are no running apps". So I clicked "restart" on my computer. In the process of restarting a message said something like: one application was preventing me from restarting. I decided to click the button that would redirect me to my desktop or the application, so i can end it, but there was nothing. There was also nothing in my task manager. So i clicked restart again and the same message of an application was preventing me from restarting appeared. I couldn't click anything because the computer automatically restarted. When using this computer nothing seems to be wrong. I am very worried about my computer now. Will/Is the act of me opening "reg" twice then restarting my computer without ending "reg", harm/change my computer? I am very worried.

Thank you for this speedy, quick response! But I did not open "regedit" i opened "reg". I opened "reg" twice and did not closed it while i restarted my computer on accident. What is "reg" and will/is it harm my computer? Thank you again for your time and quick response!

Reg.exe is a registry editor that runs from a command line. When you typed it, it presumably opened in a CMD box, and then immediately closed. It didn't do anything so there was no damage done. There's nothing to worry about.

    Hello,

First of all opening Registry Editor doesn't harms your computer until you make silly mistakes in registry editing. You can read all about Registry Editor here:

    http://www.kapilarya.com/regedit

As far as closing the application is concerned, you can click on End process in the Task Manager, it should work on.

Hope this helps, Good luck :(
