Windows 8 on my Acer Aspire X3470 PC, cannot find new device when hooked up to our Sony tv via HDMI! Please help.

We just bought this new computer 4 days ago, and previously had a laptop (not windows 8) that could hook up to our tv no problem with HDMI.  I am unsure if it is a problem due to Windows 8 or the Acer PC.   People have told me where to look to switch it to a second monitor, or extend, but that isn't even an option as it wont read that there is another device hooked up.  Do I need a different chord to hook up my PC to TV?  TV only has HDMI port (2 of them)  PC only has HDMI port(1) but there is a DVI-D port on back of monitor? This is so annoying, please help! We just want to be able to hook up computer to TV again!

I have tried HDMI hooked up with tv on, then starting computer, but still wont read it!  When I go into "devices" it just says "Start" (which I can't click on or anything) and also says "no devices to send right now."

You can try using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

    • Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering hardware and devices in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Find and fix problems with devices.‌  You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Thank you TevariRaju for your reply, but sadly this did not work!

I followed instructions and it said:

    "Problems found

Hardware changes might not have been detected                      Detected"

(with a yellow triangle with explanation point inside at the end of "Detected")

    Above this it says:

"The trouble shooter made some changes to your system.   Try attempting the task you were trying to do before"

I tried following these steps 3 times and it just will not show anything on my TV...  Any other suggestions? This is so frustrating!

I have also tried going into "add a device" and it says no devices found when my HDMI is plugged into both PC and TV.  I have tried different HDMI cables and same result.

Do I need to have "sharing" turned on, or change my "network connections" or would this just be for wireless stuff?

    Thanks in advance...
