My monitor stopped working for my compaq presario desktop computer and I was wondering if there are specific monitors I have to use or how can i find out? I tried googling it & it said I could use dell but when I tried it I only got a blank screen. All the plugs fit but the screen won't light up. I would appreciate any help. Thank you

Assuming that the connector on your computer looks like this:

pretty much any standard monitor with a "VGA" input will work.

Your problem may be that it was the video card in your Presario rather than your old monitor that stopped working.  Did you get the Dell monitor from a system that was working?  If so, connect your old monitor to that system and see if it works.

It's also possible that the cable is the problem.  If you are connecting the Dell monitor to your Presario with the old cable, try using the cable that was on the system to which the Dell monitor was originally connected.
