So last night my college laptop had an update after I shut it down. This morning I tried turning it on and was able to get to the login screen. I pressed any button and it took me to a "Please Wait" phase with Green background. After a few seconds it would take me back to my login screen but I can't log in! I press any button and I keep going to the "Please Wait" phase. It didn't say what kind of update but it saids it was a "Windows Update". I've been going at this for 3 hours and have no luck!! Please help! My college papers are on here!

    Hi Wilson,

This can happen if the updates are not installed correctly on the PC or if the updates are still pending.

Follow these methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...), except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up.

**Method 2:**If that does not help, then, check if you are able to boot into Safe Mode with Networking using the following commands.

The pending updates should complete installing when you try to boot into the Safe Mode.

    Follow these steps:

    a. Boot from the Windows 8 DVD.

    b. Click on Repair your computer.

    c. Click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options.

    d. Select the option Command prompt.

    e. Once you open Command prompt, enter the following command and press enter.

    Bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes

Once completed, please restart your computer, then press F8 to enter setup screen upon startup, then press F5 or 5 to enter Safe Mode with Networking.

**Method 3:**If you are not able to enter Safe Mode itself, then, you need to perform an Automatic Repair.

Startup Repair can detect and fix certain types of system problems that might prevent Windows from starting.

    a) Boot from the Windows 8 DVD.

    c) Click on Repair your computer and select **Troubleshoot.**d) Click on Advanced options and select Automatic Repair.

    e. Follow the on-screen instruction.

    Also, refer to the article.

For more information, refer to the section: **“My computer hangs or freezes at the Starting Windows screen”**from the following link:
