I also have problems with sound in 8.1 Vynvz anyone know what should i do?
No Audio Output Device is Installed error in Windows 8.1
So, I have the above issue. I ran Windows 8.1 since the release date without audio issue. Last week, I don't know why, I noticed after a reboot that the above error was present. I have searched online since and have tried everything that was avail (Yes, I have the latest drivers. Yes, I uninstalled and the let windows find the devices and install them. Yes, I have run the useless troubleshooter utility. Yes, I have opened the Playback Devices and selected display disabled devices. Yes, I have checked Services and verified both Windows Audio services were running. No, there are no "yellow exclamation points" within device manager.) If one can't tell, I am BEYOND frustrated. The Microsoft "help desk" won't help me without me paying for it. I believe the problem to be at the OS level and even tried to re-install windows but the installation fails (both clean install and refresh). Also, restore isn't an option because the only restore point is during the failed audio time frame. Any help would be appreciated.

2014-05-30T06:34:04+00:00 I get the same problem and have been troubleshooting this for a week with help from an IT. I have a Sony VAIO using a Realtek High Definition Sound Driver and have reinstalled the driver over 5 times. Disk Manager shows the sound card is working normally, but when I attempt to CONFIGURE the replay device nothing happens. I have attempted to uninstall the driver but after uninstalling and rebooting the driver is still there and shows enabled. Frustrating. My first problem I noticed after the 8.1 push was apps on my start menu started NOT working. They were only games i.e., Microsoft Solitaire so I was not concerned. What I did notice while troubleshooting this sound problem is I am not operating Windows 8.1 according to the microsoft website, even though my PC Info says it is the operating system I do not get the power and search icons next to my name like the website says I should if operating Windows 8.1. I sure could use some help before I bad mouth Microsoft on FaceBook again and go buy a Mac.

2014-05-30T21:38:40+00:00 Threats of buying another product aren't going to get you far. No one works for Microsoft here, and besides, Microsoft wouldn't care if you go buy a Mac: Microsoft supports them just as much. Heck, if you want a finger-friendly version of Microsoft Office for tablets, iPad is the only place to get it.
But having said that, I come here to try to help and I'll do as best I can.
As for the website not detecting you as running 8.1, can you show me where that detection is? For the most part, 8 and 8.1 are the same, and I wouldn't be too worried if the browser user-agent string doesn't distinguish.
As for the audio, can you let me know what is happening? I have a Vaio as well and my audio stopped working one day. I didn't spend much time on the issue so I don't know if it was the same as your case or not. I was able to restore it quickly by doing this:
- Open an admin command prompt
Right-click the Start button, choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list 2. Stop the audio service
Type net stop audiosrv into the Command Prompt, and press Enter 3. Start the audio service again 4. Type net start audiosrv, and press Enter.

2014-06-03T02:49:09+00:00 CDR,
I tried this and still showing "no audio device installed"
I did receive a message stating audio was stopped and restarted after each command. I even tried a reboot.
As for the website not detecting my computer running 8.1 that was not what I meant. On the Windows Support help site,
"What’s new in Windows 8.1 Update and Windows RT 8.1 Update?"
I am not getting the search and power icons as stated below. For this reason I believe there is a problem with my 8.1 update that has not been detected by any of the update troubleshooting I have performed.
"Power and Search buttons on the Start screen. These buttons appear in the upper-right corner of the Start screen next to your account picture. You'll be able to quickly and easily shut down your PC or search for things right from Start. (Some types of PCs don't have the Power button on Start. You can shut down your PC using the Power button in the Settings charm instead.) For more info, see Shut down (turn off), sleep, or hibernate your PC and How to search."
As I stated before I first started having problems with apps that quit working and uninstalling and reinstalling did not work. Now not only do the apps still not work my camera and sound are no longer working, yet VAIO troubleshooting says all hardware and drives concerning these items are all ok.
I am aware threatening to buy another product was not helpful but I am so frustrated with the answers the experts have been providing.
Thank you for your response but I still need help.

2013-11-18T02:27:50+00:00 Well it sounds to me like we have a bigger issue than the audio. If you erased your hard drive to do a clean install and now even the clean install fails, I think that's what we should try to resolve. Obviously you have to get the OS installed before we can worry about if it has audio or not.
So let's try to get you back installed so you can login and access your PC. Can you tell me what error code is given when it fails to install?
