Why can't I optimize the WINRETOOLS that is 59% fragmented and the //volume(60ao84 that is 25% fragmented manually?  Doesn't defragment on the auto schedule either.   (My Windows 8.1 was a free upgrade from the Windows 8 originally on computer.)

    Hi,

Why are you trying to optimize Windows Recovery Environment tools?

This partition allocate space for the Windows RE tools image (Winre.wim, at least 250 MB), plus enough free space so that the partition can be captured by backup utilities.

For further information, refer to the section “Windows RE Tools partition” from the article:

    Configure UEFI/GPT-Based Hard Drive Partitions

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824839.aspx

Since it is the Windows Recovery Partition, it is better not to optimize or defrag the drive. When your computer will not boot and need to reinstall or repair windows, you need to access the partition using this tools from Windows Recovery partition.

Hope the information helps. If you have any further issues on the computer, please post your question regarding Windows and we will be happy to help you.

"Why are you trying to optimize Windows Recovery Environment tools?" --- Hmmm? Why does Microsoft offer defragmentation of it as an option?

I ahev the same/similar problem, defragment shows a drive which it is indicting needs to be defragemented but it wont defragment it, if you are saying that this drive should/done need to be defragmented, it would be better if it either didnt appear in the list or simply lsted as a system drive or something that cannot be defragmented?

I have the same/similar problem, defragment shows a drive which it is indicting needs to be defragmented but it won't defragment it.

The reason I am trying to optimize this drive is because I am constantly receiving mssgs about Disk Drive Error, need to restart PC. I keep restarting and the error comes right back. I believe this has been happening since I upgraded to Win 8.1.
