I have tried both and still no luck. They don't register any problems at all, which makes me think it could be a hardware issue but I just had it lying on my table for some weeks and then the problems appared, which seems weird.
XBOX controller for pc - Analog sticks not working
I bought an xbox controller this summer and have used it to play Dark Souls to great success. However, when I returned to play it after a break, I found that the game ignores the analog sticks. I've tried another game (Dustt: An Elysian Trail) and it seems to be the same issue.
When I tried to reconfigure the controller, it acknowledged the existence of all the buttons, even clicking the analog sticks worked. But in calibration, I still couldn't get them to work.
I've tried reinstalling the software and I had no luck. The sticks move without issue, so I don't think there's anything stuck there. It's just that they don't work. Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum.
I would suggest you to try the following methods:
Method 1:
Try running the Automated Troubleshooting Services and check.

Method 2:
You may try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for Xbox controller from device manger and check if this helps.
Steps to uninstall and reinstall the Xbox controller driver:
1. Click on Start button.
2. In the search box type devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
3. Select the Xbox controller device and right click on it
4. Now select properties.
5. In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
6. After the uninstalling the drivers restart the computer. This should automatically install proper drivers for it.
You may also download and install the latest driver for it from manufacturer’s website.
