    Hi Victor,

    1. Where are you trying to create a new folder?
    2. Do you remember making any recent software or hardware changes on the computer?

This issue may occur due to system file corruption. Since the HDD Quick Test also fail with error- Fail (303), the issue could be related to hard drive failure/damage also.

Let’s try performing a check disk and check.

Important: While performing check disk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost. Make sure you have a backup of all the important data on the computer.

    a. Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.

    b. At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER

    chkdsk /f /r X:( drive letter).

    c. Press Y when you are prompted to check the disk the next time that the system restarts.

    d. Restart the computer.

If the issue persists, you need to get in touch with HP support to run the hard drive diagnostic test to check if the hard drive is failing or not.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.

    Hi Vic,

    Thank you for the updates.

It seems that there were bad sectors on the specified location and check disk tried to remove/repair the same.

You may check if you create a New Folder or not.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.

    Hi Praseetha K Nair,

Sorry for my message earlier. Had a couple of late nights fighting with this computer and had become extremely frustrated.

When I sent back and re-read you instructions I felt like a complete novice by misreading your directions.

    Successfully completed check disk.

Under CHKDSK is verifying file data (Stage 4 of 5) - reports the following incidence-

Windows replaced bad clusters in file 2448 of name \Windows\System32\N1sLexicons0011.dll

    Not sure what this.

Have not yet checked to see if I can 'create a New Folder' yet but will be sure to respond when I do

    Kind Regards,

    Vic Blizzard

    Hi Praseetha K Nair,

Thank for your kind and detailed advice

The system will not successfully back up to WD external drive - 'back-up failed to complete'

Re your question of where I was trying to create a new folder - on a 2TB external Hitachi drive.

I guess I will have to take the chance that I will not loose any data that is important.

Only hardware changes made have been the connection of external USB disk (Hitachi) Never had problems with this previously though.

    Re software changes installed

Do not remember any other software installation  up to approx 4-5 weeks prior to this issue arising.

    Regards,

    Vic Blizzard
