Hi,

I've bought a ASUS TX300 with a "qualcomm atheros ar9485wb eg low speed" wireless network adapter.

I'm now working on Windows 8.1 (after update - initialy on Windows 8.0).

Since this update, I've notice a huge degradation of my wifi experience (low speed, limited connectivity).

As a test, I've compared a laptop of a friend of mine and my Samsung Galaxy S4 (with speedtest).

At a certain place in my house, 10m far from the router, I've these results:

ASUS : DL=0.5 to 4 Mbps

            UL=+/-5Mbps

Laptop (Pakard Bell): DL=12 to 20Mbps

                                  UL=+/-5Mbps

Samsung Galaxy S4: DL=12 to 20Mbps

                                  UL=+/-5Mbps

I already tried to update the network adapter to the latest driver without success !

Thanks in advance for your help.

Br,

Chadli Assal.

    I have bought a Asus Vivobook S400CA-CA202H with the qualcomm atheros ar9485wb-eg and Windows 8 and i also had very low WiFi speed and numerous disconnects.

    Other devices on my WLAN are working properly.

    After seeking for 2 weeks for a solution i tried just about everything: other drivers, remove antivirus, other firmware/settings (encryption, MTU, enz.)router,

    reinstall OS, firewall settings, IP settings, power saving settings of the adapter. You name it.

    But this was the solution for me!!

    I noticed that the Asus Power4Gear Hybrid has i mind of it's own and constantly adjusted the performance settings.

    I removed Asus Power4Gear Hybrid and set the Windows 8 power scheme to high performance.

    I also configured the schema advanced settings for the wireless connection (maximum performance) and PCI express (disable).

    Good luck!

    I was also considering this solution, but in the end, it's not a problem with the unit itself, because I could run this machine on Linux without any hiccups, so what this tells me is that Microsoft's Windows 8.1 is not playing very nice with Qualcomm's and AMD's drivers.

    Hi guys:

    Unfortunately, I'm experiencing this strange issue since I've updated my Asus N56DP laptop to Windows 8.1 (64-bit). My overall bandwidth has decreased dramatically (from 12Mbps to 2-3MBps).

    I have tried installing several different drivers from Asus and Qualcom with no success whatsoever, and I'm currently running out of options here. My wireless adapter in question is the same Atheros AR9485wb-eg.

    I have removed Asus' Power4Gear, set wifi Power Saving Mode to Maximum Performance and disabled PCI Express Link State Power Management.

    I'd hate to believe that Microsoft released a botched update that decreases the speed of certain wireless adapters.

    Thanks in advance to any one providing any help to this issue.

    Sincerely:

    Ed.

    Hi Chadli,

    I think you are using the ASUS Transformer Book TX300 and after updating to Windows 8.1 the WiFi seems to be very slow on this laptop.

    You have mentioned that you have installed the latest drivers for the network adapter on the computer. I would like to know these information:

    1)       Did you install the latest Windows 8.1 compatible driver from the ASUS website? If yes, what is the driver version?

    2)       Do you have any third party security program installed on the computer?

    This issue could be either due to the incompatible drivers that you have installed or the conflicts from the third party security program, if you have one on the computer. Let’s try the following troubleshooting method.

    Method 1: Uninstall and reinstall the Windows 8.1 compatible Network Adapter Drivers from ASUS website.

    Please follow these steps:

    a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    b)       Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

    c)       Search for the Network Adapter device from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the incompatible/corrupted drivers from the computer.

    d)       Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted.

    After the restart, you may open the Device Manager again and then click on the “Scan for hardware changes” button at the top of the “Device Manager” window and check if Windows 8.1 detects the Network Adapter device and installs an appropriate driver automatically. After Windows 8.1 installs the drivers, check if that resolves the issue. If the issue still persists, then install the latest Windows 8.1 compatible driver from this link:

    Windows 8.1 Compatible Network Adapter Driver from ASUS

    If that doesn’t help, then check if this is caused by the third party security software conflicts on the computer.

    Method 2:Temporarily disable the third party security program. (If you have installed any)

    I request you to contact the security program technical support to temporarily disable it and then check if that resolves the issue.

    Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hope this is helpful. Please get back to us with the results.
