ScanSnap Manager won't open

Got a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500. I run a Windows 7 64-bit.  The installation went fine, the scanner shows up in the control panel, and clicking on "properties" shows it's fine.  The problem:  When I try to open the ScanSnap Manager, I get....nothing.  No response.  Not sure if I need to try reinstalling or something?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had the same problem when we installed on a newly installed Win 7 64bit Enterprise Desktop. I fixed it by exiting the manager that wasn't connecting in the right hand corner. Then checking the "Run this program in compatibility for: Win XP Sp3". Once I did that the manager started correctly.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Community Forum.

    1. Are you able to scan any document?
    2. What happens when you open Scan Snap Manager? Does it show a blank page?

The steps I am suggesting below usually check for the prerequisites required to install the program. I believe these steps should help you get started in the correct direction. Please give these steps a try and let us know.

    1. Ensure that you’ve not installed Scan Snap Manager in the root directory.

Scan Snap Manager may not function properly. Specify a folder on a local disk as the installation folder.

    1. When installing Scan Snap Manager, first log on as an Administrator.
    2. Make sure that you restart your computer after installing Scan Snap Manager.

The re-boot registers Scan Snap to the system.

    1. Uninstall Scan Snap Manager and reinstall Scan Snap Manager.

**Note:**Scan Snap Manager is not installed properly if it has not been uninstalled completely.

Refer this link to uninstall any program.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-change-program

After the uninstallation completes, download the updates from this link and check.

Hope this information is helpful. If the issue persists, please reply with results for further assistance. We'll be glad to assist you.

Yeah....tried that. It told me that I already have the latest version and no update is available.

It looks like this scanner is going to be WAY too big of a pain in the **** and is just going to annoy the **** out of me (assuming I could ever actually get it work, that is, which is looking less and less likely each day). I'm just going to return it and get a different brand. I just thought I'd try Fujitsu because the reviews were really good, but I guess that was a big mistake. Thanks anyway, though.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Its nice to get help from people who have had similar problems - but, the real way to resolve these problems is with a dialog directly with the software vendor.

EVERY vendor should maintain an updated list of bugs AND when they expect to fix specific ones.

IF there is a user workaround for a deficiency, the details should be maintained by the vendor - along with a explanation as to what the root cause is i.e. tool, input source or OS related 'deficiencies'... If the software vendor can not offer a convincing explanation as to why their software doesn't work under specific conditions, the 'integrity' or anticipated reliability of ANY workarounds, will be compromised.

    Jeff

    See my responses below:

    1.  No - the ScanSnap Manager won't open, and manually pressing the blue button just causes it to blink a few times.

    2.  ScanSnap Manager doesn't open.  It doesn't show anything.  When I click, double-click, right-click & select "open," whatever, NOTHING HAPPENS.

    3.  Did that.  No change.

    4.  Did that.  No change.

Also, it was not installed into the root directory, and there's only one user on this computer.

The 3 other programs (ScanSnap Organizer, Cardminder, and the ABBYY Fine Reader) all open and had an icon shortcut on the desktop (the Manager did not).

I can scan using the Cardminder, but only business cards.
