WMI Source Error in Event Viewer

Anonymous

So I'm having trouble with my PC freezing daily. On my monitor, my cursor freezes in one place and will not allow me to click on anything. The display remains unchanged whether I leave it for hours or a minute. Eventually, when I awake my monitor from sleep mode (after leaving on this frozen display), the monitor shows that it has no DVI signal from the tower even though I can hear that the tower fans are still active. Control-Alt-Delete has no effect (nor does it register that I am typing anything into the keyboard) nor does it recognize any command from the mouse. The only thing left for me to do is hold the power switch until the tower shuts down. Rebooting afterwards proceeds normally.

After checking the Event Viewer, I found that there is a regular WMI error logged in the Event Viewer. Going online, I found the WMI diagnostic tool provided by Microsoft and have run it. The log from running the diagnostic tool is included in the post at the very end. I believe that this is the source of my problem and, if not, I am still interested in fixing this problem with my computer. To sum up, I seem to have two problems that the WMI diagnostic tool identifies. The first type of error reports as 0x80041003; "Current user does not have permission to perform this action." That seems odd to me in that I am set up as the administrator account on my computer (the only other user account is Guest which shows as 'Off' when I check from the Control Panel). The second type of error reports as 0x80041002; "Object cannot be found."

As far as what I've done to remedy these errors, I found a similar post at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/df00b2e4-3bab-4b46-ad5a-95e82617a039/wmi-errors?forum=winserverNIS and I tried all the options that the moderator advised. The log that I include at the end of this post is the most recent one that I have run after exhausting all these options.

This has been happening for about 6 months now. I haven't had the money for new parts or even a new operating system subscription until now. I just wanted to check if anyone could help me with this because at this point I'm ready to repurchase/reinstall Windows and see if that fixes the problem. My machine is about 4 and 1/2 years old at this point, so it is possible that I might just need to bite the bullet and rebuild. I just want to check and see that the problem is not software before I go out to get new hardware. Thank you for your time.

    Hi,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

You may run SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to make sure system files are intact. The System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) scans for missing or corrupted system files and repairs them.

    Refer:

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

    Thanks.

Thank you for the response. Haven't replied until now because I was testing to see if some of these fixes improved the performance of my PC. Unfortunately, I still have the problem with freezing and shutting down.

I ran the performance troubleshooter. The only problem it was able to diagnose was that I run too many programs at Startup. So, I chose to stop some of my programs from running at Startup until the troubleshooter no longer reported that problem. However, I still am getting freezes from which I have to cold-reboot.

As for method 2, I regularly install updates and am up-to-date. However, the problem that I reported earlier still exists. As for the optimization page, I read through it and checked to see if I have any potential problems. I do not have many programs installed that I do not use on a regular basis. My hard disk is about 25% full and I do not believe I have fragmentation issues. I am not running multiple intensive programs at the same time nor have I made any changes to the visual effects of my PC since changing the settings when I replaced my monitor back in 2011. I have 2 GB of RAM and my PC Windows Experience Index is 5.9. I regularly scan for viruses both with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Attached are the newest logs run by the WMI diagnostic tool. As can be seen in the newest log, I have had about 6 new instances of this freezing problem since I last posted. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your reply. I believe that I set up my Sky Drive correctly. The following link should contain System Info, System Logs, and Application Logs. The report was not obtained in safe mode.

    Thank you for your time.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files.

    Hi,

Thank you for providing the logs.

You can try the following troubleshooting methods to fix the computer’s performance issue.

    Method 1:

Run the performance troubleshooter and check the issue status. Refer the following link.

    Open the Performance troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Performance-troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Refer to the methods mentioned in the following link.

    Windows hangs or freezes

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    You can also refer:

Optimize Windows 7 for better performance.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Optimize-Windows-7-for-better-performance

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries/issues related to Windows, write to us and we will be glad to assist you further.
