On screen keyboard shifts desktop icons

I've been randomly having an issue where my desktop icons would shift from being 4 items per column to 3 items per column, creating another column for the excess and I finally figured out why and I was hoping there was a fix.

When I use the on screen keyboard while on my desktop (rather than the start screen) my icons will go from this

to this

They are shifting to make room for the on screen keyboard like so

then after the keyboard leaves they rearrange again to be only 3 icons per column.

Is there anyway to lock the icons so they don't shift? I never used to have this problem, when I first got my laptop I used the on screen keyboard a lot so I'm not sure what could have changed.

Thanks!

(Don't mind my blacked out folder title, that's my computer User name, which is my real name)

    Hi,

    Thank you for replying.

Check to see if 'Align to Grid' has a check mark.

If the issue persists, then I would ask you to check if the issue occurs in clean boot mode.

    Refer to:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Refer the section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"

to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Thank you for the detailed issue description.

To lock the desktop icons, so that they don’t re-arrange themselves, please follow these steps:

    a. On the desktop screen, right-click on an empty space.

    b. In the drop down options, select View.

    c. Uncheck the option: Auto arrange icons.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries/issues related to Windows, write to us and we will be glad to assist you further.
