New build; no sound from either onboard audio or soundcard.

I have just built a new PC (i7 4770K, Asus Z87-PRO motherboard, 32GB DDR3 RAM) and find that there is no audio.  The meter shows audio being produced but no sound comes from the PC, both using headphones or speakers (connected analog or digital/optical).  This occurs with both the onboard Realtek audio as well as with my Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard.  I have tried uninstalling drivers and letting the system load the drivers, as well as manually installing drivers from the Asus website.  BIOS shows onboard audio is enabled.  When I try the Windows online troubleshooter, it says that I don't have any speakers/headphones connected.  What is vexing me is that it is occurring with both the onboard and the soundcard, two completely different signal paths.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to another motherboard to try it on.  However, the fact that I am getting the same exact response with the video card as I am with the onboard video would seem to indicate that it is NOT a hardware issue and more likely is a settings issue, would you not agree?

    Thank you,

    Robert

The sound drivers install without issue and give no indication of anything being awry.  The login/logoff sounds are not audible.  I will try updating the motherboard BIOS and chipset drivers and let you know the outcome.

    Thanks for your help Vijin.

    Hi Robert,

    1.    Are you able to install the Sound Drivers successfully?

    2.    Are you able to hear the login and logoff sound from your computer?

This issue can be caused due to the Motherboard pending driver updates or settings.

I would suggest you to install the sound drivers from the Motherboard disc as well as update the latest BIOS and chipset drivers from the manufactures’ website and check if it helps.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

You may also refer to the steps from the following Microsoft article and check if it helps.

    Hope it helps.
