NO SOUND - Windows 7 on MacBook Pro

I can't get sound from my speakers, or mini-audio plug, but I can get sound through my adapter to HDMI to my TV.

I just had Apple Genius Bar install Bootcamp with a 40GB Partition. Then I did a standard installation of Windows 7 Home Premium w/ SP1, 64-bit. I then completed all Windows updates until it finally said I was up to date.

Then I installed Total Defense Premium Internet Security (Firewall, virus/malware protection, etc)

Here's my spec info:

MacBook Pro 7.1 (2010 mid-year) 13"

The Mac OS is OS X 10.8.5

CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M

SATA/SATA Express: NVidia MCP89 AHC1

RAM: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

HD: Hitachi SATA Drive HTS545032B9SA02

My audio drivers are: High Definition Audio Device & NVIDIA High Definition Audio

Troubleshooting already done:

Ran the Windows Audio Troubleshooter, which found nothing wrong

I have no error message or exclamation mark for the devices

I tried to update the drivers. The system originally listed 4 drivers: 2 each  High Definition Audio Device, and 2 each NVIDIA High Definition Audio. Both of the NVIDIA drivers said they were up to date, one of the High Definition Audio Device drivers updated to the NVIDIA drivers, and the other High Def Driver did not update. I now seem to have 1 High Definition Audio Device driver, and 3 NVIDIA High Definition Audio drivers.

Thanks for your help in advance! I'm kinda a basic-level computer guy, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Dan

    I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!!

    1. Go to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US
    2. Go about halfway down that page and select which computer you have. For me it was MacBook Pro.
    3. Click on the link that identifies your computer and a grid will open that shows the various Mac models and operating systems. The grid will identify which version of Bootcamp your computer requires.
    4. Click on that version link from within the grid and it takes you to the appropriate download page.
    5. Download the bootcamp onto a FAT32 formatted flashdrive, then expand all the files.
    6. Open the main folder, then the drivers folder and find the correct driver for your sound and reinstall. For me, it was the Cirrus folder. There was a 32-bit and a 64-bit. I reinstalled the 64-bit and then tested my sound and it works!!!

I'm not really a computer guy, but I just kept trying various options and this is the one that worked for me. Hopefully, it will work for you! I think the above listed steps are accurate, but they might be just a touch off or something. I don't want to duplicate the entire sequence for fear of messing something else up.

    Good luck!

    Dan

The flashdrive should be FAT formatted.

Hello Rajesh! And thank you for your reply!

My MacBook Pro speakers work normally when I boot using the Mac OS, but not under Windows7.

I tried to follow the steps in both of those links you suggested and was able to go through the second one, which revealed no new info. I was not able to complete the first one where you listen through your Mic Jack exactly the way the steps describe, because I don't seem to be able to right-click in Windows 7 either.

I had planned to address that separately, because the sound is more important initially. Not to convolute things, but do you happen to know a quick fix for the right-click not working? Or should I go ahead and work that issue through a second string...

I tried to kinda look at the mic option through clicking on different tabs and options, but nothing seemed to work.

    Hi Dan,

I would like to know – Are you able to hear sound on the Mac Operating System or does it happen only When you login to Windows 7?

Since, this computer has multiple audio devices, this issue could be due to some incorrect audio setting or the sound card with which you have connected the HDMI might be set as the default device. This could be the reason why you hear the sound through the HDMI connection.

Please refer to this thread link and try the suggestions given in it and check if that helps.

Is it possible to have speakers and HDMI play at the same time?

For more troubleshooting methods, you may also refer to the article given below:

    No sound in Windows

Hope this resolves the issue. Please get back to us with the results.
