Trouble with Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 bus host controller (x64)

I have a custom build pc with Windows 7 x64 installed, and I'm experiencing an odd problem with the onboard IEEE 1394 controller. I don't have any firewire devices attached to the PC (it has one mini-connector on front and a regular size on in the back), but the entry for the host controller itself looks REALLY strange in Device Manager. There are 4 entries for "IEEE 1394 Controller" showing up under an "Other devices" node, and 28(!) "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" entries showing up under a "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node.

The four "Other devices" entries all have a status of "No drivers are installed for this device" and give the location as PCI bus 4, device 28, 29, 30 and 31. Under resources it says "This device isn't using any resources because it has a problem"

The 28 other entries show with one of 3 errors:

Device 0 through 9 show code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use)

Device 10 shows code 10 (This device cannot start)

Device 11-27 show code 31 (This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device)

All of these 28 show the driver as "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller". Driver provider = Microsoft, Driver date = 6/21/2006, Driver version = 6.1.7600.16385, Digital Signer = Microsoft Windows. Driver details contain one file, 1394ohci.sys.

That's not my biggest problem. The biggest problem is, that due to those 1394-controllers my M-audio audiodevice is not working anymore. This is a PCI audio device, but at the moment that the controllers appeared, my M-audio device disappeared and thus I can't use it.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Regards,

Kees

This is driving me crazy since everything else on my Win7 installation is working so well. Any clues as what could be wrong and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated, and I will happily supply any additional troubleshooting information.

    Hi Kees Koeman,

First, I would suggest you to try making sure you have the most up-to-date driver installed for your FireWire 1394 device:

    1.      Click theStart button and right click Computer

    2.      ClickManage

    3.ClickDevice Manager

    4.      ExpandIEEE 1394 Bus host controllers

    5.      Right click your FireWire host controller

    6.      ClickUpdate Driver Software

    7.      ClickSearch automatically for updated driver software

    8.      Wait to see if a more current driver is found

    9.      If one is found, clickClose and test out to see if your speed has increased

If you already had the most current driver/the speed did not increase:

    1.       Click theStart button and right click Computer

    1.      ClickManage

    2.ClickDevice Manager

    3.      ExpandIEEE 1394 Bus host controllers

    4.      Right click your FireWire host controller

    5.ClickUpdate Driver Software

    6.      ClickBrowse my computer for driver software

7.ClickLet me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

8.Click1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)

    9.ClickNext

You may also also contact the Texas Instruments.

    Hope this helps!

imran m your answers are simplistic and not worthy of microsoft support - given the information supplied and the users current knowledge level your answer is almost insulting. If you do not know the answer then please state this rather than mention a procedure anyone with a basic a very basic understanding of computers would already have done i am disappopinted

Thank you so much. I've been trying to fix my grandmother's computer for a while. She had the same problem and has been working on it for a week. Followed your directions and the problem is solved.

I have the same problem with a shuttle SP35P2 and firewire drivers (my media device is a Hauppauge TV tuner card).  Having searched the web there are lots of suggestions about using 'legacy' drivers.  This doesn't work.  Or rather works until a microsoft windows update causes a hardware scan and reload of drivers (?).  From a number of other  forum this seems to be an underlying Windows driver problem - i haven't seen a solution anywhere.

    Regards
