epson perfection 3170 photo scanner

I know this is an old thread, but:

Actually, there is an Epson driver for Windows 8.1. In some other countries the 3170 Photo was sold as GT-9400. At the Japanese Epson web-site there are drivers for both Win 8.1 x32 and x64. I've installed the x64 driver and it works perfectly.

However for Epson perfection 3170 photo scanner there is no driver for Windows 8.

I suggest you to download the driver for Windows 7 form the manufacturer’s website and install it in compatibility mode.

I was able to download and install the driver, however I cannot get it to work.  During the installation, it asked me to select the scanner, and I selected the GT-9400.  But I think there is a disconnect somewhere, because the computer sees the driver (GT-9400) without scanner and a scanner (3170) without a driver.  How do I tell Windows that they are the same?

Well, I used Chrome's built-in translator. Otherwise you could just click the orange button at the end of the page, then the download of gtv30u.exe will start.
