Problems with Microsoft RC6 remote (model:1039) and Windows 8.1

I have used this remote with Windows 7 with both 32 and 64-bit without any problems.

A couple days ago decided to try Windows 8.1 with Media Center. Everything seems to work fine expect for the fact that after restarting/starting Windows I need to press exactly three times to start Media Center application.

When Media Center application is started and closed to start it again (immediately after closing this application) pressing one time start/green button on the remote is enough. If I wait couple seconds/minuts after closing the application then I need to press two times on the start/green button on the remote to start media Center application.

What is the solution so that pressing only one time is enough to start Media Center?

    Hi,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS and Motherboard chipset drivers and check if it helps:

I have made screenshot (language = Dutch) of the device manager with eHome ir-receiver connected with the computer en disconnected.

Red arrows are "usb devices" which are disappeared when eHome ir-receiver is disconnected.

Which USB devices exactly do I need to disable?

    Hi,

Ehtray.exe is a tray bar process for the Microsoft media center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a user dependent process you can disable it.

To disable it from startup entry, right click on taskbar, click on Task Manager. Under process, right click on the media center process and click on End task and check the issue.

Please update us with the results.

I think that I found the problem.

When I press green button for the first time ehtray.exe is started.

If I do nothing this ehtray.exe will disappear/stop after exactly 10 (ten) seconds.

Pressing again results in starting ehtray.exe

If I press again on the green button (0<10 seconds) ehshell.exe will start, which is Media Centre application.

When I close Media Center application, after 20 seconds (twenty) ehtray.exe will disappear/stop.

It seems that Microsoft Remote RC6 under Windows 8.1 works as follows:

first time Green button --> start ehtray.exe and close it after 10 seconds by no other input.

second time Green button --> start ehshell but only when time between first and second is < 10 seconds.

What could be solution for this?

    Hi,

You may try to disable and enable the Human Interface Devicesand check if it helps.

    1. Press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
    2. Expand the Human Interface Devices. Right click on the USB device.
    3. Click on Properties. Click on Driver tab and click on Disable button.
    4. Click Ok. Restart the computer and enable the device again to check the issue.

Please update us with the results. We will be glad to assist you.
