American Magatrends screen opens and CMOS error appears with Press F1 continue Press Del enter Bios setup --Press 1 and the reboot error shows up. Win 8 came with the system - have downloaded 8.1 update, do not have repair discs. Can not get to safe mode. The only thing I can open is the Bios setup. How do I fix this please?

2014-04-23T20:44:20+00:00 I changed the battery and I changed the time and date in bios - no change - I rebooted holding down left alt and tapping f10 - no change. once you restart the computer the gateway SCREEN shows up with press del in left bottom corner to enter bios. wait a little bit screen changes to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I purchased recovery discs from gateway but to use them requires loosing all data from the hard disc. I don't want to do that. I thought I read somewhere that there is a start up disc that will get you to repair computer. but I don't have it. is it possible to buy it from Microsoft? the computer was purchased from sears with windows 8 preloaded.

2014-03-30T15:24:58+00:00 Hi,
What kind of repair file were you downloading when this issue occurred? Were you downloading these files from a trusted website?
What is the CMOS error displayed during the boot process?
Since you are unable to boot to the computer, I would suggest you to perform an automatic repair. The Automatic repair can detect and fix the issues that prevent the computer from starting normally. Refer to these steps:
- Boot the PC while holding the Shift key. Once the Recovery screen is displayed, click or tap on the See advanced repair options button.
- If you are unable to see the Recovery screen, hold power button to shut down the system.
- Press power button to start system. Repeat 1-2, three times.
- After that, you may see Select "See advanced repair option" in Recovery page.
- Select "Troubleshoot" in Choose an option page.
- Select "Advanced options" in Troubleshoot page. Select "Startup Settings" in Advanced options page.
Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.

2014-03-30T18:30:59+00:00 I was downloading a password recovery program on a trial basis for my Sons computer. Became Admin to limit his time on minecraft. His computer now does not recognize my password. Later on that. The CMOS error : CMOS checksum error-defaults loaded Press F1
- Continue, Press Del - Enter BIOS Setup
Pressing F1 just gets me to the Reboot and select proper boot device error. Pressing any F* gets me nothing. Del gets me to the Bios Screen. Can I fix any thing from there? I am using a windows 7 laptop - can I copy the ISO file from it and make a bootable CD/DVD/Usb ?

2014-04-06T14:19:11+00:00 Hi,
The checksum error is usually displayed when the CMOS contents failed the Checksum check. This could happen if the CMOS is unable to retain data due to a malfunction. Most of the times, this issue occurs due to a dead CMOS battery. I would suggest you to press Del button to enter the BIOS setup to check and make sure that the date and time are set correctly. If not it could mean that the battery is dead and hence causing the issue. In this case, you can replace the CMOS battery and check.
