Oh and also now this screen shows up. Thank you for unreliable service, Microsoft.
My Toshiba Windows 8 Laptop will not start (PLEASE HELP)
First of all, my laptop has worked perfectly for a year and four months with absolutely no problems whatsoever, i tried to boot it today and underneath the toshiba sign it stated "Preparing Automatic Repair" then I get a blue screen saying "Your PC needs to be repaired" with error code 0xc0000185 and I do not have any idea what could have caused this and/or how to solve it. I need this computer for work purposes and whatnot. I have attached an image of the blue screen also. If someone could please provide as much information as possible I would be very grateful.
Thanks

2014-04-28T19:32:43+00:00 I missed part of your post, a probable cause for your issue is over heating. If it is only a year old this is the most likely cause. the vent holes in particular on the satellite series have small clearance from the work surface and you need to be sure that there is room for air to pass under and exhaust especially when under load. I sometimes put a small block of timber under mine to allow sufficient clearance for air to pass.
Repair is possible and inexpensive especially for recent machines and if you really need the information yesterday you can remove the hard drive put it into a portable enclosure and migrate the files you need to another computer while you wait for the repair. If you are like me you probably have another one some where so you can access it.

2014-04-28T19:15:13+00:00 Hi Kieren,
The screen shot tells us that this is a board failure. that means that you hardware has had a failure and the hard drive cannot be found so that is why there is a media check taking place.
It depends on the Toshiba product I am only aware of Toshiba Laptops but there may be desktops as well and the various models have different ways of accessing the bios which is what you need to do to determine if the hard drive is found by the hardware and the state of your hardware.
Best bet, ring Toshiba helpline and they will probably help you into the bios from there you can check the details of what is seen by the computer and you can determine the cause of the failure.
The PCIE error suggest a board failure but it can even be a memory failure which can simulate this that is why you need to get to the BIOS.

2014-04-27T17:17:11+00:00 Hi Kieren,
Apologize for the delay in replying to you.
Have you made any recent software or hardware changes on the computer?
This issue could be related to any recent changes on the computer that might have corrupter any system files.
If you are unable to boot in normal mode after receiving the blue screen errors, then you may try the following steps and check.
Step 1:
Unplug all the external devices connected to your system (except the Keyboard and mouse) and check.
Step 2:
You may use the Windows 8.1 installation media to perform a System Restore on the computer.
Perform System Restore from Advanced Options screen and then check if you are able to boot to the computer.
Follow the steps:
a) After you boot your computer using Windows Installation or System Repair media, a black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.
b) Select the correct time and Keyboard type.
c) Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
d) Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen.
e) Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen.
f) Select System Restore.
g) Follow the onscreen instructions to restore the computer to an earlier point before the issue occurred.
If “System restore” fails, then try performing an Automatic repair from the advanced boot options and check if it helps.
