Multiple monitor background stops spanning

Using two monitors, I love the Desktop Background span picture position, shuffling through all these great panoramic images.

Unfortunately it stops spanning after a while on the second smaller monitor, which is to my right: instead, it duplicates the left-hand span.  This only rights itself after a full reboot.

e.g. representing the panoramic image as "12345" -  the spanned image on my two monitors:

[     ] [   ]

should look like:

[123] [45]

but instead it looks like:

[123] [12]

It's a feature I am keen to keep using, so any suggestions/fixes are welcome.

Spec:

OS: WIn 8.1

CPU: Intel Core i3-4340 3.6GHz

RAM: 8Gb

MB: Gigabyte H87-HD3 using on-board graphics

Monitors: Samsung P2450 & 943T

New PC, new W8.1 installation. Therefore no previous restore points. It has always done this.

Display card is an RTFQ: "MB: Gigabyte H87-HD3 using on-board graphics"

    Drivers are the latest.

Seriously, if you don't know or haven't read or understood the question, please don't just message people back telling them the equivalent of "have you tried turning it off and on again?" as it's not helpful, it shows you haven't read the question let alone investigated the issue and have just dashed off a rote/bot response, and it just looks like you're trying to up some kind of hidden forum post points score. It feels like I'm talking to Clippy.

    Hi Pinaki,

I think you still haven't actually read and/or understood my original question.

    1. knowhow to extend the display. I didextend the display. I got background panoramas working fine the day I got my new Windows 8.1 PC, and it looked lovely.
    2. After I reboot the PC and for a few days after, the background panoramas work fine. They are working fine now.
    3. THE ISSUE IS: after a while, after being put into Sleep mode for a few days, background spanning and extending stops working, despite no setting changes being made.
    4. For more information and a useful diagram example, please read the original question.

If you don't know, or if there is no fix, please just tell me. Please could you also log it as a bugfix for the next Windows 8.1 update, or let me know how to do it myself.

    Hi Pinaky,

I think you were answering the question "how do I get my background to span multiple monitors?" This wasn't the issue raised.

Just to clarify: I know how to get the background to span multiple monitors - by selecting "Span" - and it works fine.

The problem is that after a while it stops working, despite none of the settings changing.  Please read my original post for more details.

    Hi,

This issue could occur if the desktop background is set as Tile for a dual monitor setup. When we select Tile for the specific desktop background, it will show separately on both the monitors. But, we will need to select span to stretch background across both the monitors. It might also occur if the image size is small as it will repeat itself on the second display.

What is the Make and Model of the display card used on the computer?

Before we move ahead to the troubleshooting methods, I would suggest you to check if display settings changes to “Duplicate” mode from “Extended” mode. You can verify this in couple of ways:

Try to verify if you are able to drag the wallpaper to the second monitor from the first one. If you are able to, then, the display is in extended mode.

OR, you can refer to the link and follow the steps from section “Choose what's displayed on each monitor” after expanding the section “Adjust settings for multiple monitors”. Make sure that the multiple monitor setup is set as “Extend”.

For further troubleshooting, follow the methods:

    Method 1:

Refer to the link to change screen resolution:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/get-best-display-monitor

If the issue still persists, proceed to the next method.

    Method 2:

Refer to the link to try a different panoramic image and check if you are able to span the wallpaper:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/themes

For further reference, I would suggest you to update the driver for the display card be referring to the manufacturer’s website of the computer (or display card’s manufacturer). Refer to the link to know how to update drivers on Windows 8.1. Also, refer to this linkto know how to span wallpapers in a dual monitor setup.

Please get back to us with the status of this issue.
