Using two monitors with Windows 7 the screensaver works only on one monitor

Original title: Screen Saver Transitions

Using two monitors with W7, and using my photos for screensaver, it works only on one monitor. My old Windows XP computer, in screensaver mode, would transition the photos and also float them from one monitor to the second one. How can I do the same with W7?

Have you resolved this problem with screensaver with pictures on both screens yet?  I am having same issues. Ugh.. Thank you

This screensaver issue is not something that can be "fixed" since it is the way Windows 7 operates. I gave up with this problem long ago since Windows wasn't too interested in even pretending that they lowered the bar for W7. Now, they have even bigger issues with Windows 8 so those of us who would like for the screensaver to work on both monitors are just out of luck.

    Warmest regards.

    Hi allyn5157,

    1. Does this happen with any particular screensaver or is it the same with all the screen savers?

    Method 1:

Duplicate the display settings and check if you can view the Screensaver in the extended monitor as well.

To change your display settings to extended

    a. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.

    b. Click the drop-down list next to multiple displays, click Duplicate these display, and then click OK.

The Multiple displays option appears only when Windows detects more than one monitor connected to your PC.

For further information, refer the link:

    Move windows between multiple monitors

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to check the display resolution set for both monitors. Make sure the screen resolution is the same on each display.

For more information, see: Getting the best display on your monitor

     Hope this information is helpful.

Thank you for your prompt and thoughtful reply! The problem occurs with Screen Saver set to use my photos. When set to “Bubbles”, the screen saver works perfectly and the bubbles float from one monitor to the other. With my photos, the screen saver only works on the main monitor. When I first noticed this deficiency, I tried setting the monitors to “Duplicate” but that defeats the whole purpose of having two monitors, at least in my case. So I have the setting on “Extend”. It matters not whether the resolution is set the same for both monitors or not, it does not correct the problem. Reading other forums seems to confirm that this problem is inherent with Windows 7. With my old XP computer, the screen saver could be set to my photos and it worked between both monitors. With all the positives Windows 7 has over Windows XP, it becomes rather silly to have a slight deficiency built in. One tends to focus on what can’t be done rather than on all the positives. Since setting the screen saver was one of the first things I did with Windows 7, the experience produced an initial disappointment early on. Otherwise, W7 is adequate in every regard.

Thank you again for your suggestions,

    allyn5157
