I plan to to install Windows 8.1 from a disk,(once I learn how to uninstall Windows XP PRO --

from my desktop). *Question WHAT ADVANTAGE IS THERE IN INSTALLING THE "8.1 PRO" VERSION?

*Second question: how do I uninstall my current (XP PRO) o/s,which is NOT listed in my contro; panel?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards,Doug

    See:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/compare

Windows 8.1 Pro includes the following features:

    • Provides enhanced data protection with BitLocker and BitLocker To Go to help keep your information secure.
    • Enables you to host a Remote Desktop Connection on your own PC so you can connect to it when you're using a different PC.
    • Allows you to join a domain so that you can connect to your corporate or school network.

Migrating from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 requires a custom install. To learn more about how to migrate, see the following:

Also allows for the installation of Media Center--available for $10 in the MS Store.

You cannot uninstall an operating system. XP and everything on the drive will be deleted when wi 8 is installed and win 8.1 will be the only operating system. All your files and added programs will be gone, so be sure to copy personal files to external media.  Microsoft does not recommend installing win 8 on old XP computers. There are no win 8 drivers for the older hardware. It is better to buy a new computer.
