Although the battery was good at the beginning of this problem, somewhere along the way it failed. I must have fixed the other issue in one of many, different attempts because buying and inserting a new battery worked. Unfortunately, I can't help other people having the same issue because I don't know what worked. Best of luck to you all and thanks for the tech help!
"no battery is detected" error
I'm 20 hours into trying to fix a "No battery is detected" error on my Sony Vaio laptop - model # SVE-14126CXB. The problem originated in Windows 8. I updated to Windows 8.1, hoping that would fix the problem. No luck.
My BIOS, drivers, etc. are all up to date, verified by the Vaio system.
Hundreds of other people have experienced this issue (since 2010). I've tried every fix I could find on this forum, Sony's forum & help desk and elsewhere on the net. Here's a (very abbreviated) list of what I've tried.
-Remove battery. Restarting with power button hold down up to 40 seconds. Cleaning contacts. Shut down. Reinserting battery. Restart.
-Disabling then renaming ISBMre.exe
-ISBMgr.exe removal (it kept reinstalling until I removed four registry entries).
-Attempting to uninstall and also deinstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver from Device Manager, followed by scanning for hardware changes. It reloads itself every time, despite my following instructions.
My attempts to fix this problem have now deleted my ability to see that the battery was in "Good" condition (its level when I started this process). The battery is clearly drained to 0% at this point.
Do you have any other ideas I might try?
If not, is it safe to try:
-performing chkdsk on the hard drive?
-performing a system restore?
My last thought is to ask a Sony store if I could test another battery. Since my battery was still "Good" when the problem started, I doubt this will work.
Thanks VERY much for any help or insight!!

2014-03-29T18:17:04+00:00 Hey, Winston-
- I am able to access Batteries in Device Manager.
-Drivers are up to date.
-I've scanned for hardware updates. There are none.
-I was not able to uninstall or disable the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver:
(tried to uninstall/disable both by right-clicking and through the Properties tab in Device Manager. However, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery reappears each time).
- The battery indicator on the front of the computer does not light up when the computer is shut down but plugged into AC.
Thanks for your help!

Thank you for replying with the status.
- What happens when you access Batteries in device manager? Were you able to uninstall and reinstall battery driver successfully?
- What happens you shut down the computer and try to charge the battery? Do you get any indicator to check if it is charging?

2014-03-29T02:51:54+00:00 Hi, Winston & thanks for your reply.
The Vaio battery diagnostic tool reported that the battery status was "Good". The problem is that the battery is not being recognized.
I have contacted Vaio support three times & posted a question on their forum with no response. Their support staff refers me to the first solution I tried which, of course, doesn't work. (sigh)

2014-03-29T02:13:02+00:00 Hi Diana,
I appreciate the steps that you have tried to resolve the issue.
If the battery is not getting detected, it could be damaged and needs to repair or replace.
I would suggest you to run tool to diagnose the battery status by running the diagnostic tool provided by Manufacturer. You may have to contact Sony Vaio support to get more information.
