*Original tiltle: Windows 81. Update issues with Modern IE and Offline File Synch

Hi all,

I recently installed the Windows 8.1 Update. Install went fine and all seemed to be ok. Today, I started up a Modern IE session but most of the web sites fail to load or they load briefly then fail and give me the following error:

Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears that the website continues to have a problem.

What you can do: •Try to return to yammer.com

More information  More information

When a website causes a failure or crash, Internet Explorer attempts to restore the site. It stops after two tries to avoid an endless loop.

I also noticed that my Offline File Synch (Files available offline) via Windows Explorer stopped working. If I go to a synched folder it shows the folder as being offline even though I'm connected to the network that the files are on.

Any ideas? Have others reported similar?

    Hi,

For issues with Internet explorer I would suggest you to use the desktop Internet explorer and check you are able to access the websites.

Follow the steps mentioned in the link below to troubleshoot if internet explorer is not working:

What to do when Internet Explorer isn't working

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-crashes-stops-working#ie=ie-11

Disclaimer: Resetting Internet Explorer settings will not affect your browsing history, unless you select the Delete personal settings check box during reset. If you only want to view or delete your browsing history, you don't need to reset all Internet Explorer settings.

For issues with Offline files, I would suggest you to perform a clean boot on your computer:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"

Hope this helps, please reply for further assistance on windows.

    Thank you.

Ok - well the IE recommendations did not work. I am still getting the error when going to www.cnet.com, www.zdnet.com, www.amazon.com, www.cnn.com, etc.

Thanks, I'll give these a try and let you know.

Note that the sites work fine on the same machine in IE desktop and on another Win 8.1 Update computer.
