How to convert WebM video to MP4/AVI/WMV etc.

Hi.

I recently bought an app for my android device with which to record home movies using the device's camera and utilising various filters and 'live' effects.

It's a cool application and does everything i want it to, but the devs decided not to buy the rights to any file format that included royalties. Therefor, my home movies are saved only as WebM files that are accessable soley through the web (firefox html).

This means that i have absolutely no way of PC editing or using my own movies taken from my own device! - which is pretty frustrating as i am eager to make some original youtube/vimeo films very soon.

This is a bit sneaky and dishonest by the app devs as they should tell people this before buying the program, but the program itself is perfect (and pretty unique) for my movie-making needs.

So, how can i convert my own personal recordings from a WebM to a saveable and editable file format on my Windows PC, and is there a safe video converter out there that i can use for this purpose?

(Preferably low cost or free, but above all, safe).

Thanks,

KJ

I don't need a converter. A simple rename of the file extension works.

You first need to be able to see the file extension by doing this.

    1. Click the Start menu. ...
    2. Type "folder options" (without the quotes). ...
    3. A dialog box with the title "Folder Options" will appear. ...
    4. Click to uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
    5. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Now to just right click on the file and select rename.

Change the .webm to .wmv or .mp4, whatever.

From Apple Discussion, I learn that:

WebM is an open, royalty-free video container format designed for use with HTML5, similar to OGV format. Webmaster can use HTML5 tag <video> to embed video into web page, and most popular web browsers as Chrome, Firefox, Opera support playing WebM video without requiring plug-ins. IE and Safari can support it by install a plug-in.

To play WebM file anywhere, here is a full guide on how to convert <removed>

Hope it will help you more or less.

Hey there. I just tried downloading Freemake and Norton flagged it as a virus. Do you know any other converters?

    Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the quick response and suggestions.

I downloaded the Freemake converter and tried it out. It works a treat! - pretty quick too.

I see what you mean, Volunteer J about the checkbox checking upon download. As long as your careful, it's a question of common sense, so thanks for the heads-up on that.

Nice one S Sengupta and J. I can now get to work on my videos now in the way that i want.

    :)

    KJ.

You can absolutely try some video converting tools that are designed to help someone change the video between different video formats.
