Dear,

 Good Morning.

After formatting and installing Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows Update reports the error message "Windows was unable to check for new updates. An error occurred while searching for new updates for your computer. Error (s) found: Code 80072EFE Unknown error in Windows Update " (" WindowsUpdate_80072EFE "" WindowsUpdate_dt000 ").
For a few days now I've been trying to access Ryan Nemeth's post, which is about a script that will completely reset the Windows Update client settings. The name of the script is "Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1" and points to the link "https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Reset-WindowsUpdateps1-e0c5eb78/file/182059/1/Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1", it happens that when I try to access the link, I am redirected to the link "https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/samples/browse/?redirectedfrom=TechNet-Gallery". Searching this page does not return anything about the "Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1" script. I know this script exists because it is on Ryan Nemeth's profile under the "ACTIVITY" tab. I would also like to locate the post where he describes details of its use. I have the same problem when I access the posts in the links "https://answers.microsoft.com/pt-br/windows/forum/all/erro-800706f7/09864b3c-71fe-4d0a-9f20-c5d4a8fe727a" and, "https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/problemas-com-o-windows-update-do-windows-7-home/0bb0c25a-ee3b-4afd-a049-29880e8af3e0". Which deals with the "ResetWUeng.zip" file that points to the link "https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc" but is redirected to the link "https: // learn.microsoft.com/en-us/samples/browse/?redirectedfrom=TechNet-Gallery ".

Can anyone tell me where this content was moved to?
Or if they have been removed permanently?
Or where can I get guidance to completely reset Windows Update client settings for Windows 7 Home Premium?
Or does anyone also know a solution for the error: Code 80072EFE Unknown Windows Update Error "(" WindowsUpdate_80072EFE " " WindowsUpdate_dt000 ")? I haven't been able to download any updates since the day I formatted and installed Windows 7 so far?

I thought you were at least Win7 SP1. So you have 1 more step that happens BEFORE the other 5

    windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

which is SP1. No prereqs. You can do Win7RTM > SP1 > the other 5 steps above.

You need to apply the following patches in order from an RTM Windows 7 machine. This is due to the many adjustments to Windows Update over time that an RTM version can't get by (SSL encryption, Root Certificates, TLS, etc)

    64Bit

    Step 1 - Windows6.1-KB3050265-x64.msu
    Step 2 - Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64.msu
    Step 3 - windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.msu
    Step 4 - Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu
Step 5 - windows6.1-kb4284826-x64_9e172f5bb50206dd65d4f60ac07a82baa1aef525.msu (OR LATEST CU PATCH)

    32bit

    Step 1 - Windows6.1-KB3050265-x86.msu
    Step 2 - Windows6.1-KB3020369-x86.msu
    Step 3 - windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x86_ba1ff5537312561795cc04db0b02fbb0a74b2cbd.msu
    Step 4 - Windows6.1-KB3172605-x86.msu
Step 5 - windows6.1-kb4284826-x86_13753454d08f50cd10338432bbda241cb00a71bb.msu (OR LATEST CU PATCH)

After this, Windows Update will work properly.

    Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1
    https://gist.github.com/chw2054/9a5ff06d61c32c1e8cdc364b08df4156

Or you could manually reset Windows update components.
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-resources#reset-windows-update-components-manually

Please understand, Windows 7 is end of support, only Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise can buy ESU for extend security update, for Home edition, you will not get any update since January 14, 2020.

    Dear @Adam J. Marshall and @Teemo Tang ,

     Goodnight.

Thanks for posting. Sorry for the delay in answering you, but I was trying to put into practice what you sent me.
A brief description of what I have already done:

     - Machine features, PC with ASUS M4A89GTD PRO / USB3 motherboard, AMD Phenom (tm) II X4 B50 2.40 GHz processor, 500 GB hard drive, with 4Gb RAM and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System. I partitioned and formatted my HD in two partitions. On the primary partition I left it with 200 GB and installed Windows 7.

     - I performed a clean boot, according to link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd .
     - I completely reset the Windows Update client settings, according to the link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-resources#reset-windows-update-components-manually .
     - I reset all network settings, according to the link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-update-erro-80240016/0c49c67a-950b-41d6-b17b-6e7cbd450d12.
     But nothing worked.

I did this because many of the updates that Mr AJTek-Adam-J-Marshall mentioned in the reply, call for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Even the most recent Windows Update Agent calls for SP1. The version of the Windows Update Agent (wuaueng.dll) that is installed on my machine after installing Windows 7 is 7.3.7600.16385.

What I need to know is what updates (KBs) are prerequisites for installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1? Or does this prerequisite not exist, just running Service Pack 1 on the machine?

TeemoTang-MSFT, in the process of completely resetting the Windows Update client settings, as per Microsoft documentation, the DLLs mentioned below were not found in the Windows 7 %windir%\system32 directory during the DLL registration process s. Do these DLLs belong to Windows Vista or Windows 10?

    msxml.dll
    gpkcsp.dll
    sccbase.dll
    slbcsp.dll
    initpki.dll
    wuaueng1.dll
    wucltui.dll
    muweb.dll
    msjava.dll
    msxml2.dll

Another detail, the DLLs mentioned below gave an error during the registration process. I will list the DLLs according to the error presented.

    First Error.

The module "<File Name>" was loaded, but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "<File Name>" is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again.

    mshtml.dll
    shdocvw.dll
    Browseui.dll
    qmgr.dll

    Second Error.

Failed to load module "<File Name>". Make sure the binary is stored in the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found.

    wuweb.dll
    muweb.dll
