    Hi Mary,

Microsoft Visual C++ is one of the programming languages that makes up the Microsoft Visual Studio Windows development suite. In order to run most applications written with the Microsoft Visual Studio program, users must have special programs installed on their system known as "redistributable packages."

If you have Windows 8 and have any software or older programs installed on the computer which require Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, then you need to keep the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable package.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.
