I am looking to add more animations to windows movie maker.  I would like more options (most importantly 'snapshots' which is on my apple tv and my wife's Mac.)  Is there a download somewhere i can add this stuff with (that's safe).  I see a few 3rd party software but they all want to downgrade movie maker to a vista version and i avoid anything that says vista...

Unfortunately the Movie Maker team did not provide a customization API (application programming interface) to allow developers to create additional transitions or effects.

They did provide this in the prior version of Movie Maker (Windows Movie Maker 6.0) and there is growing list of available transitions and effects for that version.

I can understand your hesitation in using another version of Movie Maker, but the version that came with Vista can also be used on Windows 7 or Windows 8.  And it will be installed in a separate folder, so you can use it or the latest version, as the needs of your project dictate.

    Downloads:

    Windows Movie Maker 6.0

    Custom Transitions, Effects and Titles

Note: all those have been used by numerous members of the community throughout the years, but if you still are concerned, then I would skip it.  In that case, the answer is "no" there are no custom transitions available for the latest version of Movie Maker.

Last I heard, Microsoft hasn't offered any additional effects/transitions for Windows Movie Maker 2011/2012; Purchased or otherwise.

You can't add more animations, but I found (by accident) that if you're adding content to what you've already got, tons more than what shows up initially appear. For example, I was recording my vlog and needed to stop, then record an additional clip. When I went to make a transition between clips, suddenly there were a lot more options than just the few that showed at the beginning of the project. I hope that makes sense.

@Pacmanz, your question is off-topic for this thread. For the sake of anyone following this specific thread, I suggest you post this as a separate question.

    Yes— I understand.

The original question was to 'add more animations to windows movie maker'.  And Microsoft doesn't offer any additional ones, than what's offered baseline with Windows Movie Maker. At this time, I don't know that you can buy or create additional effects for Windows Movie Maker.

Did I miss something or did we not read the same question?
