    Hi,

This issue might occur due to incompatibility of the game with Windows 8.

Is the issue specific to Shogun total war game?

As per the latest updates at Windows Compatibility center is concerned, it shows that the game “Shogun total war” isn’t compatible with Windows 8. Refer to the link to find the details:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=Windows%208.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=Shogun%2BTotal%2BWar%2BGold%2B&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14

As you have mentioned that the game was running on Windows 7, try running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode and check if it fixes the issue. Follow the methods listed below:

    Method 1:

Follow the steps to reinstall the game in Windows compatibility mode:

    • Press Windows+X keys and select Programs and Features.
    • Locate the Shogun total war game’s icon and right click on it. Select Uninstall.
    • Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the application.
    • Locate the folder that has the setup file for the game. Right Click on the setup file and select Properties. Go to Compatibility tab and check the box which states “Run this program in compatibility mode for”.
    • Select the Windows 7 from the drop down list.
    • Click on OK. Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to install the game.

Check if the game still crashes. If yes, proceed to the next method.

    Method 2:

Let’s place the computer in a clean boot state and then try playing the game.

Refer to the link to place the laptop in a clean boot state:

Refer to the section “Windows 8”

You can refer to the section “How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot” to check for the application or program that is causing this issue:

Note: Please refer to the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.
