Hi!

Recently after editing some settings on msconfig(disabled boot gui and thats it) i've started to get pc running on low memory problem.

i guess its problem with RAM Memory cause thats the only memory i can see in task manager.

i got 2,7 gb used out of 4,0gb of ram(because currently i got one game turned on)

anyway i haven't touched any ram settings in msconfig or on any other place so i don't know why do i get this false alarm message and that's why i'm asking it in here.

btw i got 1 pic of it as proof, and i'm running Windows 8.1 PRO Edition

I also receive the same computer low on memory error message often after using my computer for a couple of days without shutting down (only hibernating). Sometimes it will crash some of my applications. But most of the time, Windows becomes unresponsive or very very slow.  I have tried to shut down ALL applications.  But still the memory low error can persist.  Seems like the advice to close programs is not really the solution.  I have done my own checks.  I installed a memory cleaner which can display the status of the memory usage.  Interestingly when such memory error occurs, I have found that this can happen despite usage of my 4GB RAM is <20%.  On further checking, I found a consistent pattern that the error happens when my pagefile memory is >90+%.  I started tracking this pagefile memory usage closely and found that it just keeps going up over time, it simply does not come back down even when u close the programs.  In the end, I followed some threads and implemented a "delete pagefile on reboot" option and manage to clear the pagefile everytime I reboot.  This will solve the problem for a few days but it will come back to haunt me again.  It forces me to reboot, something difficult for me to do as I work on projects for long durations and I do not want to keep shutting down and rebooting!!

This is very very irritating for me!

While playing around with the pagefile (virtual memory), I also found that everytime I try to set the pagefile size manually (i.e. not auto set by system), the dreaded blue screen will appear. So I have also given up setting it manually.  It seems to always be about 3456MB size thereabout.

    Anyone has any solutions?

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for giving us an update on the issue.

Did you try the troubleshooting methods? If yes, you can try them and observe the status of the issue.

If you have already tried them and the low memory notification only occurs while playing the game, you can uninstall and reinstall the game. Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall it:

Note: Make sure that you have the setup file for the game before uninstalling it. Otherwise, download or arrange a copy of the setup file for the game and follow up with the steps.

    • Press Windows+X keys and select Programs and Features.
    • Locate the game icon from the list and double click on it to uninstall. Follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Locate the folder that has the setup file for the game. Double Click on it and install the game.

Check if that fixes the issue.

As the event log has notification regarding Skype app, you may also uninstall and reinstall Skype app in regards to these issues.  Right Click on the Skype app and select Uninstall. Refer to the linkto reinstall the app from Store be referring to Your apps section.

Please let us know about the results.

    Hi Michael,

This might happen incorrect screen resolution that you have setup while using a different application on the computer. Outdated display card driver installed on the computer could also be another cause.

Do you receive the error message only while using running different programs such as a game or any video player?

    1. What is the Make and Model of the computer?
    2. What are the changes that you made under MSCONFIG prior to this issue?

If you receive the error message while using any particular application such as a game, I would suggest you to check if the display resolution for the game and the desktop is same. Follow the methods:

    Method 1:

Refer to the link and follow the suggestions from Arcan3 on December 9, 2013:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-gaming/windows-81-x64-low-memory-while-playing-full/e4602805-a1e1-4704-b006-92f43247b9e8

Check if the same issue occurs again. If yes, proceed to the next method.

    Method 2:

Let’s check if the same issue occurs in safe mode. Follow the steps:

    Step 1:

I would suggest you to refer to the link and boot the computer in safe mode:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

Check if the same issue occurs in safe mode. If not, proceed to the next step.

    Step 2:

Let’s place the computer in a clean boot state and check if there is a third party application or service that is causing the issue:

Refer to the section “Windows 8

You can refer to the section “How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot” to check for the application or program that is causing this issue:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please refer to the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean bootof the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

For further troubleshooting, I would suggest you to provide the Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps

    • Go to the Start Screen, type in Event Viewer. This will bring up the Event Viewer tile, Click to open the event viewer.
    • In the left pane, expand out Windows Logs. Click on Application log and highlight the first event in the log and use your arrow keys to scroll down.
    • Most of your event will be Information. You may see Yellow Warnings or Red Errors. If you see any red error, you can double click on it to bring it up and copy the contents to a document.

Please get back to us with the status of this issue.
